EOTD/REVIEW: Essence Frosted Apple...

I'm a self confessed essence fan :-) With a track record of far more hits than misses, I don't hesitate to recommend the brand to anyone and everyone. As a rule, I never pre-judge an eye shadow based on its bargain price tag for the simple fact that more often than not, I've been blown away by the quality, pigmentation and long lasting performance of products that cost less than $5, and have been devastatingly disappointed by a few that were six times the price...

This is another of the shades from the essence metal glam range, and probably the last one I'll purchase, purely because the rest of the colors in the set don't really appeal to me. I find it interesting that apart from Jewel Up the Ocean, which is an incredibly stunning and vivid turquoise, the remainder are mainly browns and greys. Even this one is somewhat neutral for my vibrant tastes, but there's no denying it's very pretty :-)

Frosted apple is its name, a shell pink with a gold shimmer, or maybe it's gold with a shell pink shimmer? Lol - depends on the lighting, but metal and glam it sure is. In the above photos it looks more gold than pink because I used MNY Color Tattoo in Bold Gold as a base, but my feeling is that if I replaced the gold layer with Pomegranate Punk, the pink would really come into it's own...

The above left pic was taken in natural light, the one on the right was using a flash, and the daylight photo below was of a swatch on my bare arm...

I smoked the outer corner and crease with MUA matte charcoal (#20) because it all looked a bit wishy washy, but again I feel with the warmth of the Pomegranate Punk base, it wouldn't need any supportive outlining :-) Both of the shadows I have from this collection are creamy and rich, apply and blend magnificently, and although they are quite soft in the pan, the powder adheres really well to the brush until you press it on, and there's very little fallout to clean up afterwards. Add a bit of moisture to the brush, and the colours gleam and glow even more like molten metal...

I really love this shadow as it's also one of the few more neutral colours in my collection that doesn't diminish my eye colour too any great degree, plus it's only $4.25...

Take care of you,
kats xxx

    1. Why thank you Minty :-) One thing about metallic shadows is that you never know quite how they'll turn out in the photos, they seem to change depending on the lighting - this actually looked far more pink IRL...

  4. It was with looking at your eye colours once when you were using Essence that I then looked at the product in our chemist. I had a wedding to go to and saw one that you were wearing (yes it was green :-) ). I bought it and loved it and what was even great was the price. Who would ever have thought that something under $5 would be fantastic. I've bought a few of their eyeshadows and products now and not been displeased at all.
The above eyes look great as always kats....loving metallic now. :-)

    1. Well I'm so glad they work for you too mandy - I've found their single or double pan shadows usually have better pigment than the quads, I think I've only come across 2 duds over the years, and I love how buttery and creamy the 3D and metal glam ones are xxx

  6. Super gorgeous eotd kats! The pinky gold shimmer shade is really pretty - I'd love to see what it'd look like over a Pomegranate Punk base too.

  7. This is such a pretty colour :) and I definitely agree with you about how some drugstore eyeshadows beat the pants off high end products. This colour would look really good as a blush too!!

    1. Oh my Sarah - what a scathingly brilliant idea to use it as a blush! Might be a bit too metallic to use it on a big area of my wrinkly skin, but I'm definitely going to experiment with it as a highlighter along the top of my cheekbones. Thanks a bunch hon :-)

  9. Kats, this EOTD looks fabulous! Wow! I haven't had success with essence products. I bought them online as I don't have a store where I can test them. I was disappointed in the two essence eyeshadows I have, but I've just discovered they work better over my Mirenesse eye primer.

    1. Bummer you can't try them out first Petal, but I'm glad to hear you've found a workaround - I rarely use ANY shadow without a base as I can't bear being disappointed. Years ago I found the essence shadows were patchy. If I bought a palette, two out of the four would be duds, but they seem to have gotten their act together these days, particularly with the 3D and this new Metal Glam range :-)

  10. It's a beautiful colour, Kat. Pinky Gold is such a lovely shade. Mind you, when I read the name "Frosted Apple", I was expecting a frosted mint green and was thinking of a Granny Smith :).
Are you going to show us this eyeshadow using Pomegranate Punk as the base ? I'd like to see what difference it makes to this Essence eyeshadow.

    1. I would have thought the same Arty - the name is indeed a bit odd, I mean you'd think if it wasn't green, it would be frosted RED, not pale pink. And yes I promise I will do an EOTD with the pomegranate underneath, probably before Tuesday because I'm keen to see how it turns out :-)
