REVIEW: SheaMoisture Raw Shea Butter Hydrating Body Wash & Soap...

One of the many beauties of blogging is having a voice - when I find something I absolutely adore, I invariably bang on and on about it because there's a chance of it becoming something that one of you lovelies might love too, especially when it calms, hydrates and soothes the biggest organ of our bodies - skin! I've already posted a WOW article covering some of the products from SheaMoisture (HERE) and there will no doubt be others as I work my way through their range, but today my rave is all about the Raw Shea Butter Hydrating Body Wash & Soap, with Frankincense & Myrrh extracts...

My skin is becoming drier and drier by the day - it's inevitable really as oil production slows down with age, and moisture retention becomes an even bigger challenge. To help keep my skin as hydrated as possible, I've been gradually eliminating all the products from my bathing routine that contain SLS, a move that has calmed the itchy patches on my arms, and the cracked and scaly areas on my legs aren't anywhere near as troublesome as they were. But I still need to be careful of what I use, and the next phase of my skin plan was to only use SLS-free cleansers that also replenish what washing takes away - enter SheaMoisture and their Raw Shea Butter range specifically for dry skin  As luck would have it, just before Christmas, they had a special offer of 40% discount, and that plus my "KATS" coupon code of 30% (which you can still use at the checkout) added up to the perfect opportunity to try more from this fabulous brand ...

I'll start with the soap as it's my favourite of the two, which is so interesting as my preference shifted right away from soap bars and into body washes and shower gels many MANY moons ago, but this gorgeous chunk of deliciously scented and amazingly hydrating bubbles has converted me right back! It's a massive 230g, and the fragrance is divine - it reminds me of an exxy men's cologne, but still feminine enough for us gals and sufficiently subtle to not be a bother to those with sensitivities. I've been smothering my bod with its creamy and delicately fragrant lather for over a week, and not once have I needed to apply any rehydrating lotions or potions - all over, my skin has stayed soft and supple without even a hint of dryness. Winner! ...

The Hydrating Body Wash is equally moisture replenishing. The main ingredient listed on the label is aloe, and as well as the shea butter, frankincense and myrrh extracts, other formula inclusions are coconut oil, carrot seed oil and mango seed butter. With all those skin-kind goodies in the recipe, it's no wonder this bottle of cleansing suds leaves the skin so refreshingly hydrated. I was hoping it would have the same fragrance as the soap and was a tad disappointed to find it has barely any scent at all, but that will no doubt appeal to many of you. It has a very runny consistency, so you'll need to be cautious when dispensing, but the pivot cap makes controlling the flow super easy. I'm loving showering with this too, but because of the minimal scent, my heart belongs to the soap bar ...

In summary, both of these products are brilliant for folks dealing with dry skin, and I highly recommend them for replenishing the moisture that cleansing takes out.  And because of the super special deal I scored, I'm giving away one of each to an Aussie follower ...

REVIEW: Nutrimetics Nutri-Rich Intensive Lip Treatment SPF18...

Well now here's yet another Nutrimetics product I've added to my can't-live-without list  Their Nutri-Rich Intensive Lip Treatment with SPF18 is one of my recent purchases (and a bargain one too), and I'm excited to at last have a lip balm in my kit that not only performs brilliantly, but it looks absolutely gorgeous too!...

This super-softening balm has the look and feel of a high-end lipstick. The case is a glam metallic gold base and cap with a silver (labelled) band in the middle. No more tatty balm sticks with the label wearing off - this one is a stunner, and one I'll be keeping in my handbag forever lol!...

Inside the tube is 3.8g of product - apricot kernel oil and Vitamin E blended into a non-sticky non-greasy lipstick bullet that beautifully hydrates my pout with a slight sheen, plus there's SPF18 for added UV protection. It has the familiar Nutrimetics apricot oil fragrance, but it's very VERY faint, and has the merest hint of an apricot taste...

Like most Nutrimetics products, the trick is to wait for them to be on sale, which fortunately is often. This balm has an RRP of $36, which is way over the top for what it is, and for my budget, but it's available at the moment for $14.90, so I snapped up several...

As always, I love to share when I discover something special, so I'm giving one of these lip treatments away to one of you lovelies. And to sweeten the pot, I'm including a couple of extra Nutrimetics goodies ...

    • 1 x Nutri-Rich Bathing Bar with Apricot Kernel Oil
    • 1 x Nutri-Rich Smoothing Lip Polish with Apricot Kernel Oil
    • 1 x Nutri-Rich Intensive Lip Treatment
All items are sealed, were purchased by me, and the giveaway is open to...

    REVIEW: SheaMoisture African Black Soap...

Yay for Spring hey lovelies! And you know what that means - time to begin peeling away multiple layers of clothing, and ultimately revealing a bit more skin as the weather warms up. And if your Winter skin is anything like mine, you might need a bit of help preparing for the big reveal, well legs and arms anyway. So here is what's been helping me transform my cold weather scaly bits - the SheaMoisture African Black Soap range. I'd never heard of this brand until I was recently invited to trial their Jamaican Castor Oil Strengthen & Restore Hair suite of products for beautyheaven, and I was so impressed with the quality, natural ingredients, moisturising properties AND the cruelty-free philosophy, I ordered this "body pack" from their website and it's still on special ...

This range is particularly for troubled skin - acne, psoriasis & eczema, none of which I'm dealing with (fortunately) but I figure if it's designed to comfort, balance and soothe any of those icky troubles, it could only be of benefit to my flaky old skin, and I figured right. Here's what's NOT in the products:

    No Parabens
    No Phthalates
    No Paraffin
    No Mineral Oil
    No DEA
    No Petroleum
    No Formaldehyde
    No Propylene
    No Sulfates

It's a four generation-owned family business, they only test on themselves, and the shea butter they use is Certified Organic and Fair Trade. So let's get on with the goodies, and what else IS in them ...

African Black Soap Premium Large Bar Soap  (230g, $13.95)

Oh wow, I wasn't prepared for this to be so good! It smells fantastic, and it's such a massive size that will last forever because you only need a couple of rubs on your flannel for a complete head to toe cleansing experience. The bubbles literally go on forever, and my skin is left feeling soothed, nourished and hydrated. The fragrance reminds me of those white milk bottle lollies, so I guess that puts it in the category of sweetened vanilla - it's a subtle scent, but ever so delicious, and I love this so much I've already bought another cake for the hand basin ...

African Black Soap Body Wash (384ml, $24.95)

Well now, pretty much the same goes for this Body Wash - one squirt from the pivot cap and you've enough softening and intensely moisturising suds to last all the way down to your toes. The bubbles are amazing - so creamy and rich, and yet the shower floor isn't the slightest bit slippery. The fragrance is distinct and yet very delicate - like vanilla baby powder, but sweeter. The liquid is darkest brown with little black speckles, which I reckon are Cocoa Pod Ash, but that's a guess. The ingredients list goes on for a bit, but the number one position goes to aloe vera. There's also coconut, shea butter, Vitamin E, oat bran extract and palm. My skin feels SO soft after showering and I'm officially declaring this to be my new favourite body wash! ...

African Black Soap Soothing Body Mask (340g)

This mask was the last one I tried from the bundle, only because it requires quite a bit of skin exposure for 20 minutes, and I've been waiting for a warmer day so I could partake of its goodness. Well, the day came and I slathered this on my chest and upper arms, and what a difference there was after I rinsed off - instantly soft, smooth, becalmed and refined skin! Ok so we have bentonite, kaolin, shea butter, charcoal powder, cocoa pod ash, tea tree oil, colloidal oatmeal, jojoba oil, allantoin, tamarind extract, calendula extract and rice bran oil in the mix - with all that, how could my skin be anything but sensational? Again this light grey creamy paste has the delicate fragrance of milk bottle lollies. Divine! It's not listed separately on their website as yet, but I'm guessing that it will eventually be available to buy on its own ...

African Black Soap Bamboo Charcoal Body Scrub W/Tea Tree Oil (170g)

You know I love all of these products, but this Body Scrub just might be my pick of the bunch - it's one of the best body scrubs I've ever had the pleasure to use. A thick pale pearly grey concoction primarily of mango seed oil, shea butter, jojoba oil, bamboo charcoal and tea tree oil, you can see the teeny black charcoal grains that gently slough all the rough bits off your bod, and leave your skin as smooth as silk. It has a very faint vanilla charcoal scent which I doubt would bother anyone, and while twice weekly use is recommended, it's so gentle I've been scrubbing all over every second day because it's that darn good, and an absolute delight to use. It's in short supply at the moment so this one isn't listed separately on their website either, but fingers crossed that will change soon ...

As always I am IMPELLED to share the love when I find something that really rings my chimes, so I'm giving away a couple of the delicioso products from their range...

There's a jar of their Balancing Moisturiser, which I haven't tried, but it was sent to me by mistake as part of the body pack. I contacted the company, and they sent me the missing body wash, and then very kindly said I could keep the cream or give it to someone who might need it. Nice one! As I have enough moisturisers to last me till 2025 (I'm joking, but it sure looks that way on my bench), I'm passing it onto one of your lovelies, plus one of the regular sized soap bars, which incidentally is safe to use on your face. If you would like to try these, let me know in the comments section below and I'll put all the names in a hat and pick a winner at random ...

At this stage, the SheaMoisture product range is only available from their website (HERE) or Priceline.

    Take care of you,
    kats xxx

REVIEW & GIVEAWAY! - Grahams Natural Anti-Aging Skincare...

Being the skincare fanatic that I am, I was delighted when Grahams Natural contacted me early in June, and sent me their Anti-Aging day and night creams to trial and review. I was not familiar with this Aussie brand at all, but having read the story HERE of how they researched and developed their Calendulis Plus eczema cream and Bath Oil, as well as other treatments for psoriasis & dermatitis, I was confident that they knew their stuff as far as meeting skin hydration needs were concerned. I've been using the Natural Moisturising Cream and Natural Hydrating Night Cream for 2 weeks, loving them both, and wanted to spread the word AND share the love, so I hope you'll keep reading to the end for the giveaway ...

The Natural Moisturising Cream with Seaweed Extract comes in a 125ml plastic recyclable pump bottle - no packaging glam here, no frills, no gimmicks. The pump is sturdy, and it's easy as pie to adjust the amount dispensed. The cream is gentle and light but amazingly effective - it spreads effortlessly, has a delicate floral fragrance that dissipates quickly, and makes my skin feel silky soft, like I was born yesterday. Primers and foundations glide on, and I experienced no additional shine or greasiness throughout the day ♥ Note: there's no SPF content, so you'll need to add ray protection. Ingredients include Rice Bran Oil (highest), Shea Butter, Licorice Root Extract, and Bladderwrack (seaweed) Extract (rich in Vitamin C)...

One standard pump is way too much for my particular needs - I find that less than half that is plenty for my face, neck and chest area, and I expect this large bottle to last a good while. And with a price tag of $14.95, my bank manager will be beside him/herself with glee. Absorption rate is high with the right quantity, and although it's too early to tell if there are any anti-aging benefits, I can assure you my face is 100% hydrated, and my complexion looks plumped, becalmed and healthy, and not a flake of dry skin to be seen in my magnifying mirror ...

The Natural Hydrating Night Cream is even more potent - you can see below how little I use for such a big area, whoa! At this rate the 50ml jar will last me at least 6 months  Slightly different fragrance and even more delicate, this is such a pleasure to use, and my skin feels like it has been given everything it needs to repair and regenerate while I sleep. The formula is amazingly enriching, and yet there's no excess oil on my T-zone in the morning...

After purified water, the second highest content is Sweet Almond Oil & Glycerin, and there's also Olive Butter, Sea Buckthorn Oil, Coffee Extract and Thyme Extract. I should imagine that if you are dealing with particularly dry skin, or you are allergic to chemical-based formulas, both of these creams will answer your prayers as far as hydration is concerned. I've used a truckload of face creams throughout my life, but none quite as effective at replenishing moisture as either of these beauties ...

There's another BONUS - neither of them clog my pores! Congestion is something I deal with on a regular basis, and particularly when I switch to a new product range, but I've had no such issues with these formulas. By the way none of Grahams Natural products are tested on our furry friends  In summary, if you're dealing with dry skin and you're after maximum hydration with no irritation, then I expect these creams will serve you brilliantly...

I was so impressed with these creams (and the cleanser reviewed last week HERE), I placed an order for some of their other goodies, with multiples of some items as I just KNEW they would be great. Plus the folks at Grahams Natural generously included a few extra products for me to try, and I'll be reviewing them over the coming weeks ...

Meanwhile, I'm busting to share this latest product range discovery with you lovelies, so I've put together a giveaway. I haven't tried the soap as yet, and the Rose Mineral Deodorant in the picture below was gifted, but the Herbal one I ordered is brilliant, and if you don't love the 100% edible Raspberry Organic Lip Balm, I'll eat my hat!...

So the giveaway consists of the following items:

    • Natural Anti-Aging Moisturising Cream with Seaweed Extract (125ml)
    • Mineral Deodorant - Rose (65ml)
    • Daily Facial Gel Cleanser with Green Tea, Aloe Vera & Cucumber (125ml)
    • Natural Soap with Manuka Honey (100g)
    • Organic Lip Balm - Vanilla (4.25g)
    • Organic Lip Balm - Raspberry (4.25g)

Apart from the (gifted) deodorant, all products were purchased by me. Total prize value is just under $60, and this giveaway is open INTERNATIONALLY...

The usual rules apply - one entry per person, follow the instructions in the Rafflecopter section, and leave a comment below that answers the question inside the copter...

REVIEW: Urban Rituelle Wellness Cleansing Bars...

Regular readers will know that I'm a big big fan of Urban Rituelle products - have been for years. They're a beaut all-Aussie company, their range is made with concern for the environment, they never test on animals, and everything feels like it's been injected with a whole lotta love. I've only recently become super excited about natural soaps, and I was so happy when I heard that UR was adding these very special Wellness Cleansing Bars to their range, and jumped for joy when they sent me all six to sample and review ...
UR always manages to come up with stunning packaging, and these soaps are no exception. Each one is sealed and boxed in bio-degradable and recyclable paper/cardboard, and the top flap of the box is colour-coded according to the contents. They're huge too - 150 grams of finely milled fragrant cleanser that's made from 100% naturally derived ingredients. As you can see in the list from the back of the box below, there's no less than six oils in every cake - whoa!..

So I'll start with one of my personal favourites - Blood Orange, Papaya & Mandarin. The blend of these three fruits is tangy and exotic, refreshing and revitalising. Good enough to eat in fact, and I can imagine this will be a huge hit with all members of the family - nothing contrived or fiddle-faddle about this mix, it's a pure unadulterated tropical delight ...

If you're a berry-lover, then you'll be entranced by this mingling of Guava, Cranberry & Goji Berries. The fragrance reminds me of a mouthwatering dessert - as a matter of fact, every time I hold the cake to my nose, I start salivating, that's how realistic and delish it is lol. You may have gathered, this is also one of my top picks  All of these soaps are so enriching, and they lather like there's no tomorrow. Within seconds of water contact, you'll be rewarded with a super creamy and moisturising foam that will not only cleanse your skin, but add rich nutrients to it...

Next is probably the most potently scented variety of the six - Lemon Myrtle, Lemongrass & Muddled Mint. Does that sound fabulous or what? Well I reckon it's guaranteed to lift your spirits with its lemon zest and distinctively herbal tang. To me the fragrance is Mother Nature at her best - natural, organic, verdant, yes please ...

Time to take a little pause from the heady scents - if you prefer your soap fragrance to be a little less intrusive, then the Coconut, Honey, Almond & Chia bar might be the one for you. This smells just as delightful as any of the others, but it's way more subtle. With coconut & honey in the blend, I was expecting something sweet, but it's more earthy, almost nutty with the vaguest whiff of licorice, well that's what my hooter picks up anyway. It's also the colour of milk chocolate, which I'm guessing comes primarily from the Chia seeds. I predict that fellas will love this ...

And what collection would be complete without a wee bit of rose - Rose Infused Coconut Water, Cucumber & Aloe. But this is not your standard girly romantic blend - imagine a sweet young rosebud in a zesty herb wrapper, crisp and fresh. There's a trace of coconut, and I can't say I can identify the cucumber or aloe, but I can imagine this being an invigorating start to any morning ...

And last we have the Grapefruit, Lemon, Pineapple & Celery - what a showstopper! Now this is zing, zing, and more zing - smells EXACTLY like freshly grated lemon rind, fabulously fruity and citrusy, and I do so love fruit fragrances in my bathroom. The pineapple nips any sourness in the bud, and the celery gives the lemon free reign to dazzle without any acidity - for lemon lovers, this is bliss all the way ...

Their catalogue is chock full of so many other delights, the photography is stunning, and if you're wondering what else to order, I can highly recommend their hand creams, organic lip balms and reed diffusers ...

Honestly, there's a flavour for everyone in this Wellness set. RRP is $11.95 and the bars seem just as densely packed as others I've tried from this brand, which means they'll last a long long time. UR regularly has specials, shipping is free for orders over $100, delivery is 3 days or less, and there's ALWAYS a free gift ...

Thank you Urban Rituelle for sharing the love, and congratulations on adding yet another top class product to your beautiful range ...

Which one of these scented soaps takes your fancy the most?

    Take care of you,
    kats xxx

    REVIEW: Natural Secrets Goatsmilk...

You may have gathered I LOVE discovering new brands - sure I have my favourites, but finding a new love is always a delight, and I have the Bloggers United AU Event last November to thank for my latest skin and body care adventure. All the attendees were gifted with a tube of Goatsmilk Hand Cream and a cake of Goatsmilk Moisturising Soap from the generous folk at Natural Secrets. An all Australian brand, they make a range of products (some for bubs too) that you'll find in selected pharmacies. So far I haven't been able to locate one chemist that stocks the entire range, but when I fall in love with something, I don't mind heading off on a seek-and-ye-shall-find mission till I track down what I'm after. Below is only part of their selection, but it will keep me going for now  If you have any trouble spotting this brand in your usual haunts, all products are purchasable from their website...

The first product I tried was the Moisturising Hand Cream - a delight from the very first application, it's non-greasy, and has a lovely fresh florally scent. My hands were in pretty poor shape after the move, from days and days of cleaning (without gloves - smack!) and ripping open cardboard boxes, but this deliciously hydrating cream fixed them in a week. I've actually been using it exclusively for the last month, and have already bought a standby tube ($6.99 for 80ml) ...

When I found out they made a Shower Gel, that was next on my list. With the same delicate scent, this bottle is what I reach for when I need some serious moisturising for my bod. Comes in a big fat 500ml container for $11.99, and your skin will love you for slathering on the super-softening pearly white bubbles. Suitable for dry and sensitive skin, it's made with goat's milk (no surprises there ha ha!), milk protein, aloe vera & vitamin E, and most importantly, free from sulphates, parabens & petrochemicals. Actually the entire range excludes these harsh chemicals ...

Just like makeup palettes, it's always a struggle for me to unwrap a cake of soap and actually use it - I do so love to keep them all pristine in my undies drawer, but I made an exception with this cake. Again the same refreshing scent, the one that was gifted was the plain moisturising variety, but I've since bought the kind that contains Manuka Honey. There are several other variations too, and both of these formulations leave your hands so soft and hydrated as well as clean. Although I'm a liquid hand wash gal, I always have a cake of soap on the vanity for when I want a really good scrub (especially under the finger nails), but also for guests so that they have a choice ...

The Moisturising Handwash was a must to try, and it didn't disappoint. Love the squat chubby bottle that never topples over (a steal for $6.99) - the formula is quite runny but highly concentrated, so one pump is enough to give your hands a fragrant cleanse that won't dry out your skin, in fact my hands always feel more supple and moist after a wash than before ...

Love each and every one of these products. There's also a Hand & Body Cream (250ml for $17.99) that I have my eye on - just desperately trying to use up a whole bunch of other body moisturisers that will expire in the next 6 months, but after that, I'll be adding it to my collection for sure ...

Love this range, and I reckon this old chooky and goats milk are a match made in heaven ...

How does your skin feel about goat's milk products? Have you tried this particular brand before?

    Take care of you,
    kats xxx

    REVIEW: Urban Rituelle Botanical Infusions...

What gal (or Mum) doesn't adore lavishing their bod with beautifully fragranced and enriching products hey? You know, the ones that not only smell like they were made in heaven, but also provide essential nutrients to keep the skin in the best condition possible? Well my previous passion for Urban Rituelle's range has hit a new high after receiving this ever so pretty pouch of Botanical Infusions from the UR team

The quilted zipper bag contains Botanical Perfume, Organic Hand Cream and Botanical Soap, all lovingly scented with vanilla, lavender and geranium essential oils. Such a treat for the senses - an inspired blend that's both calming and enlivening, soothing and refreshing, relaxing and revitalising. My nose can detect all three main ingredients - the lavender and geranium tend to steal the spotlight from the vanilla, but overall it's a masterful pot pourri of flowers and spice...

    Botanical Perfume...
The perfume is cleverly packaged in a plastic pump spray bottle - this is a blessed innovation as I've already had one of my purse sprays topple over, roll off the vanity and smash into little shards on the tiled bathroom floor (sob...). First note is most definitely lavender, real lavender, which is an instant pick-me-up. The geranium starts to come through after a minute or so, and then they both snuggle down on a delicious bed of vanilla. The fragrance is pleasurably potent for around 3 hours, and leaves a creamy perfume caress on the skin for several more

    Botanical Soap
Regular readers will know of my passion for liquid hand and body washes, but I do still use soap every week (especially for shaving) and there's always a cake on the basin in case that's what visitors prefer. I can honestly say that the ONLY soaps in my bathroom are from Urban Rituelle - they lather like there's no tomorrow, and are enriched with Glycerin, Vitamin E, Shea and Cocoa Butters. Along with the vanilla, lavender and geranium oils, this botanical variety also contains Oat Bran. There's not even the remotest chance of this soap drying your skin - it's unbelievably creamy and I reckon it actually puts moisture back in. The cake is a massive 200gm, it's lightly scented with the same gorgeous fragrance, and will have your guests in raptures

    Organic Hand Cream
And now for the hand cream - another magnificently crafted concoction for paws that have seen better days. Love ALL UR hand creams (particularly crazy about the Equilibrium and Ginger Apple ones), but this little beauty is pretty close to taking over the top spot. My hands feel so incredibly soft and cared for after massaging in some of this magical formula. It's non greasy, and my skin is deliriously happy to drink in the Aloe Vera, Sweet Almond, Jojoba, Olive, Avocado & Rosehip oils it contains. Combined with Shea Butter and Vitamin E, it's an amazingly regenerative hand cream that protects while it heals and nourishes. Same delightful fragrance as the perfume, but more delicate and subtle

And for those who like to know the whole score, here's the list of ingredients...

All up, a stunningly presented collection of beautifully fragrant and nourishing products - so kind to the skin, and your spirits will be transported out into a flower-filled meadow. I'm planning on ordering one of these for my Mum for Mother's Day - I have no doubt whatsoever that she will adore every item. This particular set is $39.95, but I've noticed there's another pack (with a smaller tube of hand cream and minus the pouch) on sale at the moment for $22 - total bargain! There's also a Lemon Grass, Lemon Myrtle, Grapefruit & Eucalyptus variety which sounds so wonderful, and I can't wait to try it

Urban Rituelle use no artificial colours or fragrances in their products, no sulfates or parabens either, nor do they test on animals. Delivery is prompt, packaging is ever so pretty, and there's always a gift with every purchase

Bless you Urban Rituelle - that's my "what'll I give my Mum?" gift dilemma sorted! Thank you so very much for the opportunity to sample more of your fabulous range, and to discover yet another new love

What are you giving your Mum on Mother's Day, or if you're a mum, what would you like to receive? What's your favourite Urban Rituelle fragrance?
