7 Year Bloggiversary Giveaway!...

Holey guacemoley - I've been doing this for 7 years? June 2020 Empties & Giveaway!...

Well COVID-19 is not affecting my Empties, that's for sure! The usual mega selection of regulars, but there's a handful of new ones reviewed. I'm always excited when I finish a fragrance, and last month I spritzed the last of two bottles, both of which I've reviewed in detail in past posts, so I've included the links. June was also the month when I experimented with wearing the Skin Republic Eye Patches almost every night (both Collagen & Retinol) - I went through eight packs (all half-price specials), which equates to 24 pairs/nights, and can report that they made a difference to the puffiness of my eye bags, but not much change to my wrinkles. I'll probably go back to a couple of times a week as it was a bit of an indulgence and at full price, not one my budget can maintain. This was part of a gift set sent to me at Christmas by one of my regular readers - a gorgeous, kind and generous lady (you know who you are sweetheart). British Rose is just that - pure and natural, the scent is the same as if you leaned over a rose bush in full bloom and took a deep breath, and the formula is non-drying. There was a body butter and hand cream too, and I just adore them all ♥♥♥...

Schmidt's Lavender + Sage Natural Deodorant (75g, RRP $13.99)
I figure this formula would be just as effective as the charcoal one for completely stopping both odour and wetness, and I was right - what I didn't figure on was falling in love with the scent! I thought it would be a wee bit insipid or girly for winter, but it's fabulous. Definitely lavender, but the sage cuts the floral component in half and makes it herbally enough to be interesting and earthy - my new fave! ♥♥♥...

As part of my "let's clear the bench" campaign, I finished off this cleanser, which has been hanging around with about 10 pumps left in it for 2 years. It doesn't seem to be available any more, which on the one hand is a shame as I enjoyed it's effectiveness on my combo skin, however, the decision to drop it from the range may have been something to do with the annoyance that I could never seem to remove all the little baking soda granules from my face if I used it at the basin. Who knows, but that was my only beef, and I quite liked the scent ♥♥♥...

L'Oreal Pure Clay Detoxifying Gel Wash (150ml, RRP $14.99)

Love this but it's incredibly messy unless used in the shower. Stains my wash cloth too but I'm prepared to put up with that as it works a treat to deep cleanse my face, and I've a passion for skincare products containing charcoal. It also has a very pleasant fragrance ♥♥♥...

Olay Luminous Tone Perfecting Cream (14g, RRP $10)

I seem to have a stash of these trial-size jars of Olay creams from various sources, so I'll work my way through them whenever I finish something else. This one was truly a joy to use, refreshing floral scent and it left my skin lusciously hydrated and soft. Didn't notice any improvement in luminescence or spot fading, but hey, the jar only lasts a week which really is too soon to tell if it's working ♥♥...

Swisse Micellar Makeup Remover + Cucumber Extract (300ml, RRP $10.95)

Very good second cleanser and I always go for micellars that don't drag on my skin - this one has lots of slip and picked up every last trace of makeup left from the first cleanse, but the scent was a bit weird - not sure what it is, kind of earthy, but definitely not cucumber ♥♥♥...

REVIEW: Britney Spears Fantasy, The Naughty Remix EDP...

Yes it's me again, with another Britney Spears fragrance review ♥ In case you're wondering, there are at least four more bottles on my blogging HQ shelf eagerly awaiting their turn in the review spotlight, and not one of them is by Miss Spears. But I've had this hot pink delight on my bench for several months, so at the risk of boring you, here is my take on Fantasy, The Naughty Remix...

I'll start by saying that despite my passion for quite a few of her other Fantasy flavours, I'm not a fan of the original, but I love love love this variation. Most definitely a gourmand fragrance, to me this smells like a freshly baked vanilla snow cake topped with musk icing. It's ridiculously sweet and chocolatey at first, but the drydown is soft and powdery AND creamy with a tinge of wood. I'm actually quite puzzled as to why I enjoy it so much - the original contains quite a lot of fruit, and I normally go crazy over fruity scents, but there's something about it that bothers me so I've never indulged, even though it seems to be drastically reduced on a regular basis (always a temptation). This blend however has zero fruit, and a bucketload of white chocolate and cupcake - I often find gourmand scents way too sickly and cloying, and it's certainly not what I'd call a grown up fragrance, so it's all a bit of a mystery, but not one I'm going to lose any sleep over. Instead I'm spritzing this from head to toe like there's no tomorrow...

The bottle is pretty-as - a deliciously deep magenta with a sweetheart necklace, and unlike the other round Swarovski studded containers in the Fantasy range, this flacon is slim and curvy with more than a hint of Arabian Nights. While I absolutely adore the look of the others, there's a timeless elegance to this shape, it's far easier to grasp and dispense, and the 30ml size is cute and compact enough for my handbag....

Longevity on my skin is excellent - close to six hours before I even have to think about another dose. While it's not overly potent, it might just be a starter in the headache-inducing department for those who are prone, but don't let me put you off trying this mouth-watering foodie scentsation. Although it's described as sensual, dark and exotic, I don't find anything "naughty" about it at all - to me it's fun and flirty and flavoursome, and perfect for those who are young at heart (like me) ♥

REVIEW: Britney Spears Hidden Fantasy EDP...

Well by now I think it's blatantly obvious that I have a penchant for Britney Spears fragrances! There's something about them that makes my nose smile, and I can't help but be attracted to the packaging of the Fantasy series - how pretty they look on my shelf with their Swarovski crystals twinkling in the light. So here's my latest acquisition and the fourth in my collection - Hidden Fantasy...

This is another one (like Circus Fantasy) that's a mix of semi-sweet and sour, but it also has a potent spicy kick which no doubt comes from the inclusion of cloves. Initial hit is baked citrus - a blend of orange, tangerine and lemon verbena. After a few minutes, my schnozz picks up a subtle hint of jasmine and vanilla, shortly followed by the emergence of a decidedly woody character (Jacaranda woods?). The base is amber and sandalwood, but I can't smell those till about half an hour later when the cloves take a couple of steps back...

With an overall spiced orange character with musky undertones, this definitely conjures up Christmas to me, and the red bottle seals the deal. But for us Aussies, more like Christmas-in-July - think rugged up in front of an open fire, a glass of mulled wine and nibbling on some orange poppy seed cake. Perfect for Autumn/Winter, I doubt I'll wear this in the warmer weather when I prefer something fresher and sweeter, and with more petal power. Lasts well - around 3-4 hours as far as immediate surrounding environment penetration goes, but I can still smell it on my skin the next morning ...

Absolutely love it - very different from anything else in my collection. Out of all the Britney fragrances in my kit, this is the most "mature". Delighted to have a very specific winter scent to get me through the cold months. Hidden Fantasy is described as a floral fruity gourmand fragrance, but I'm inclined to classify it as a woody oriental with benefits lol. It certainly has an upfront masculine quality about it, in fact it's almost unisex, but the heart is all gal ♥...

REVIEW: Britney Spears Circus Fantasy EDP...

If you'd told me five years ago (even three) that I would be waxing lyrical about celebrity fragrances at a fairly steady pace, I would have said "not a chance!". But here I am with yet another Britney Spears EDP rave review - this time it's Circus Fantasy. The marketing genius behind this line of "fantasy" perfumes (an Elizabeth Arden employee I believe) deserves a hearty pat on the back - not only are the fragrances unique and appeal to most ages, this unbelievably cute bottle seems to lend itself to all manner of colour variations, and I'm so loving this cheerful mix of turquoise pearl with orangey-red Swarovski gems...

Although the perfume has an overall fun and festive air about it, I actually find it quite sophisticated, and 100% feminine. The opening notes are fresh and fruity, but there's an initial tartness to it that caught my attention when I sampled it in Priceline, almost like slow-baked oranges. Well I sure got that wrong - it turns out there's a few punnets of raspberries blended with masses of apricot blossoms, a most intriguing fruit/floral combination. The middle notes are orchid, peony and lotus (can't pick them, had to look them up), however I can detect a fair whack of musk and vanilla in the base, which has woody undertones. But there was something else that I couldn't put my finger on - something familiar and comforting. Naaahh...it couldn't be violet, could it? Well in fact yes, my research confirmed my most beloved ingredient is there, so it's no wonder I love this perfume ♥

Mind you I was somewhat puzzled by the name - it doesn't conjure up a circus to me, but then I read that it was inspired by and released to coincide with Britney's Circus album, and the tour of the same name. So don't let its moniker put you off - this EDP starts off a wee bit loud, but it softens into a sweet creamy floral spiced with musky sugared fruit. (Lol, where do I get these descriptions from?). The first bold burst lasts about 10 minutes, and then all the flowers come out to play and keep this ever so clean and pretty scent lingering on my skin for around three hours, up to five if I spray a bit on my clothing. It will be interesting to see how it goes in the cooler weather - I have a feeling it will adapt well...

In summary another winner from Miss Spears - it's remarkably different from the other Britney's in my collection, and I will repurchase, although at the rate I'm collecting her fragrances, it may take me a while to get through this big fat bottle. The RRP for 100ml is $79(!), but I picked it up on special at Blooms for $19.99 - now that's my kind of price ♥

REVIEW: Britney Spears Island Fantasy EDT...

Oh Britney! You've outdone yourself with this creation - one of the most refreshing and smile-inducing fragrances I've come across in a while, and the bottle is so incredibly summery and pretty. I'm most definitely a Midnight Fantasy fan - have been for years, however I've not been entranced with the other varieties, but this blend has me in a total tizz, and is one I plan to keep on my shelf FOREVER! For me it was instantaneous hook, line and sinker love at first sight AND smell ♥ Just feast your eyes on the gorgeous colours in this mood-lifting ombre bottle...

As for the fragrance, let's see if I can do it justice ♥ OK think of golden sand, crystal clear aqua blue waters, lush tropical vegetation, a comfy lounge chair - then add yourself into the picture, tucking into a divine sweet and juicy fruit salad that's loaded with melon, and you're there. Whether it's Tahiti or Hawaii or some other favourite paradise destination, this fragrance is guaranteed to take you far away from where you are, and there's no lost luggage! This is truly a summer holiday in a bottle - first note is undoubtedly mandarin, genuine mandarin, then a few red berries start bubbling up to the surface bringing with them clementine and jasmine, freesia, and wait for it, a tinge of violet (my precious ♥). And then just when you're basking in all that whole citrusy petal-packed experience, a chunk of tantalisingly luscious watermelon comes into focus, nestled on a bed of musky sugar cane, and merges all the notes into one gloriously crisp fruity floral extravaganza. Whoa!

This fabulous fragrance has only one flaw - it's an eau de toilette and therefore doesn't last longer than a few hours. Britney my dear, please, PLEASE bring this out in an EDP!

I'm literally tripping on this scent - if you think you might be a fan of a mandarin, blossom and melon combo, run don't walk to your nearest Chemist Warehouse where this 100ml bottle is on sale for $14.99 (WHA?). My local CW and the online store have been sold out for quite a while (completely understandable), but you may get lucky in your area. I could only find this at Priceline and had to pay full price, but I don't care a fig melon because it's just so amazingly delish, and a sparkling jewel in the sea of fragrances out there ♥

SPOTLIGHT: October Empties...

What an interesting exercise! Haven't done this before, but it seems to be a popular theme with so many bloggers, so I decided to keep track of all the products I used up last month, and it was somewhat of an eye-opener (whoops!). Mind you I made a concerted effort to finish off anything that was almost done, so this volume is unlikely to be repeated anytime soon, but I'm delighted that I've cleared some space on my shelves to make room for more goodies lol. I've already reviewed quite a few of these, so will keep these comments reasonably short...

Palmolive Strawberry Bodypolish Exfoliating Body Wash

I used this up, but only because I have a thing about wasting stuff. As a rule, Palmolive does sensational fruity fragranced shower products, but they just can't get strawberry right. Doesn't smell real to me, in fact I found this to be quite cloying and almost chocolatey, didn't feel at all refreshed after my shower, and gave myself a pat on the back for finishing the bottle.

Repurchase? Nope...

Palmolive Acai Berry Bodypolish Exfoliating Body Wash

This one was considerably better than the strawberry, but not enough for me to buy it again. Can't say I'm familiar with the fragrance of Acai Berries, but this to me smells like stewed prunes lol.

Repurchase? No...

Neutrogena Oil-free Eye Make-Up Remover

One of my can't-live-withouts - nothing, repeat NOTHING, works as well as this beauty to take off five layers of waterproof mascara! I've tried so many, but there are simply none to compare.

Repurchase? Undoubtedly, in fact I always have at least two bottles in reserve in the cupboard ♥... 

L'Oreal Skin Perfection Gel-cream Wash
This is a lovely cleanser, gentle yet effective, soap free and fragrance free, barely any suds to get in your eyes, and non-drying.
Repurchase? No, but only because it's fragrance free - I'm a scentophile and I got bored with it...

Lacura Micellar Cleansing Water 3 in 1
I really liked this - sort of a Micellar water with benefits. Purists won't be happy because it has additional ingredients (cucumber extract) that take it half way into "toner" territory, but nowhere near as harsh as even the gentlest traditional toner. Very refreshing and with some additional cleansing oomph, it also has that Lacura fragrance that people either love or hate.
Repurchase? Would if I could, but I haven't seen it since - the eternal Aldi availability problem...

Neutrogena Makeup Remover Cleansing Towlettes

Another of my can't-live-withouts - I use these to clean my brushes every day. I fold the cloth into four then rub the brushes onto the pad and keep rubbing them back and forwards till they're clean, then swipe them on a dry towel to remove any residue. They're amazingly effective and my brushes last longer by not being in water. They're also terrific for cleaning the sticky stuff off products before photographing them, as well as getting the marks off my bench.

Repurchase? Absolutely - like the eye make-up remover I always have at least two spare packs stashed away ♥...

Dove Original stick deodorant
Another must-have - this has been my go-to anti-perspirant for over five years, despite trying a whole stack of others. I don't like sprays (I always seem to breathe them in lol) or roll-ons (too sticky and wet), love the powdery fragrance and it keeps me dry and fresh all day.
Repurchase? Yep, always a spare in my drawer, and one at work...

Colgate Optus White Toothpaste
I alternate between the Express White and the Enamel White, whichever is on special. This toothpaste does make a difference, keeps my tea stains from settling in, and I like the taste.
Repurchase? Definitely, there are THREE spare tubes in my bathroom cabinet lol...

Elucent Whitening Day Moisturiser
Briefly touched on this beautiful day cream here - will write a proper review soon, this has lasted me over five months, I think it's because the pump delivers the exact amount so there's zero waste. Light and non-greasy but with SPF30, my face loves this stuff.
Repurchase? Certainly - I have three other day creams to trial first, but will definitely be getting this one again, suits my skin perfectly...

NeoStrata Targeted Bionic Face Serum
Beautiful serum and a hydrating treat for my skin - can't say I've noticed any startling improvements in the anti-aging department, but of the reviews I've read of any NeoStrata products, the raves come from the folks that have been using them for years so I guess these are "long-termers".
Repurchase? Would definitely give this a much longer time frame to show some benefits, and will order some more once I get through the other two serums I have in the wings...

NeoStrata Skin Active Intensive Eye Therapy
My latest fave eye cream - had a fit when it ran out the other night! Crows feet can only be seen when I smile, droopy lids have firmed a little and the minor discolourations have evened out. It has the edge over my previous fave, Clarins Super Restorative Total Eye Concentrate...
Repurchase? Sure have, just waiting for my order to arrive (hurry up Aust Post!)

Britney Spears Midnight Fantasy EDP
Of her range, this is the one I love the most - has lasted me 12 months, but I've been sparing with it so it would be around for as long as possible, review here.
Repurchase? Yes - just treated myself to a 100ml bottle...

Crabtree & Evelyn Hand Therapy - Evelyn Rose
Gorgeous hand cream - this came in my Blogstar prize almost two years ago. I have at least three on the go at any one time, which is why this has lasted so well. Deliciously moisturising, keeps my cuticles soft too, smells exactly like garden roses. Don't like the way the metal tube looks ratty even after the first use.
Repurchase? No, but only because I'm not so keen on the rose fragrance, would try another flavour...

L'Occitane Shea Butter Dry Skin Hand Cream
Well now who doesn't love this hand cream? Treated myself to this giant tube after scoring half a dozen travel sized ones from magazine covers. Been slathering it on as a treatment at night and reaping the soft-skin rewards the next day. But, I don't like the smell or the metal tube (see above) - yeah, I know, I'm hard to please.
Repurchase? Probably not as fragrance is becoming an even more important factor in my repurchase habits as I get older - I want to ADORE the whole experience, and I've found one I love more (here)...

Urban Rituelle Organic Hand Cream - Vanilla, Lavender & Geranium
UR hand creams are my absolute favourites - all of them are a feast for the senses, and they keep my hands soft and free of dry cracks and reddened knuckles. This little tube was actually a free gift with one of my orders. My rave review of it is here.
Repurchase? Probably not, but only because I still have two tubes in my drawer, and they keep coming out with more stunning fragrances to try - dilemma!...
