SPOTLIGHT: Favourite May 2018 LOTD's...

Time for another round of personal fave LOTD's. To this day it still surprises me how lipstick-loco I've become in the last few years. In my younger days, I never dreamed that I would have such a massive collection so late in life, and in most colours of the rainbow. As I recall I was obsessed with ONE particular lippie in my early teens - can't for the life of me remember the brand (most likely Avon), but it was the palest beige, icily frosted and I used to slick it on straight after meals as I thought it made me look so hot lol! It's laughable because now it's the last colour I would wear - I'd just look ill ♥...

As usual, there are a few non-mainstream brands in the collage, and I'll start with the reds and work my way towards my true love, purple...

1. This first one has appeared before - Seraphine Botanicals Vegan Berry Tint in Cherry Cream. Every time I think about cancelling my Lip Monthly subscription, I remind myself how many gems have come my way in their little bags, and this is one - so creamy, so dense and such a fabulously vibrant red ♥...

2. Another stunningly fiery hue, this is Lush Liquid Lipstick in the shade Power Without Fierce. I should wear this way more often as it's simply divine, the gold shimmer is just so flattering ♥...

3. At least one of these NYX Cosmic Metals lip creams appears in every post as I wear them probably more than any other product - this is Solar Energy, adore its juicy vibrancy ♥...

4. You may have gathered I'm quite fond of metallic finishes - I just love the sheen! This one is Colourpop Ultra Metallic Lip in the shade DM. Wish it wasn't so drying, but it's tolerable ♥...

5. It's lipstick shades like this that make me look forward to Autumn - L'Oreal Infallible Forever Frappe. Gorgeous maple, and so lovely and moist ♥...

6. Another repeater, L'Oreal Color Riche - Oud Obsession. Is it brown, is it red? Don't care, it's a stunner either way ♥...

 7. Another one from Lip Monthly. I can count on them for something a bit different, and I can't get enough of this dusky pink - Bellapierre Kiss Proof Lip Creme in Antique Pink, and kiss proof it sure is, lasts forever, and then some ♥...

8. This ever so pretty pink is Rimmel Lasting Finish in Heart Breaker - moist and comfy, I have quite a few from this range ♥...

9. Adore this one and it's only $6 from Woolworths! - MUD Full Colour Lip Lacquer in Wild Mauve Surprisingly comfortable and reasonably long wearing ♥...

10. Maybelline Vivid Matte Liquid Lipstick - Berry Boost. This range is still SO good, beautiful colours and the formula is brilliant, although it's far from matte, which suits me just fine ♥...

11. Fell for this one big time - Revlon Ultra HD Matte Metallic Lip Colour in Dazzle. There's nothing even vaguely metallic about it, but the shade soothes my soul ♥...

12. NYX Cosmic Metals Lip Cream - Asteroid Aura. Be still my beating heart ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥...

SPOTLIGHT: May Empties 2018 + Giveaway!...

Well now, May was a whopper for empties! I went through so many products I couldn't fit them all in one photo, so the masks are in a separate pic halfway down the page lol. I managed to clear five bottles of body wash, but before you start thinking I shower 10 times in a day, I must add that I didn't START them all in May - these all had an inch or two left in them at the end of Sydney's long hot Summer, and I decided to concentrate on using them up instead of storing them away to make space for my Winter faves. Also (unbelievably!) I finished off two foundations, so this really was quite a record month...

Avalon Organics Refreshing Lemon Bath & Shower Gel (355ml, RRP $11)

I'd read such amazing reviews of the Avalon Organics range online, so I just had to try it and ordered this lemon gel from iHerb. If lemon is your thing, then you'll be in zest heaven with this gem - it actually contains oils from limes, grapefruit and oranges as well as lemons, plus the number one ingredient listed is aloe juice. It's vegan, not tested on animals, paraben-free and the bottle is made from 100% recycled material. Not quite as hydrating as I'd hoped, and it's a pain to have to order it outside of Oz, but it has everything else going for it! ♥♥...

Yes, but I'll try the lavender one next as the lemon is a bit too zingy for the cold weather ha ha ♥♥...

Ecostore Coconut & Vanilla Gentle & Nourishing Body Wash (400ml, RRP $8.99)

I tell you what New Zealand is rapidly becoming THE most fabulous source of skin care products.  Absolutely love this range and the fact that I can buy it at Woolworths. The packaging is modern and stylish, it smells delish, and it doesn't dry my skin AT ALL. Cruelty-free and no SLS either ♥♥♥...

Estelle & Thild Fresh Water Lily Hand Soap (250ml, RRP $16)

Added this to my Sephora cart to qualify for free shipping, but I won't buy it again. Sure it's nice enough - made in Sweden and certified organic, but I really didn't enjoy the scent, and it's way too runny to be practical. Lost count of the number of times I depressed the pump and managed to squirt it past my hands and onto my clothing!...

Nubian Heritage Mango Butter Body Wash (384ml, RRP $14)

Another one that was raved about on iHerb, and I completely understand why - it's ah-mazing. Contains mango, shea and cocoa butter, Vitamin C & coconut oil - incredibly hydrating, lathers like crazy and the fruity mango fragrance is to die for. It only has one flaw - it's SO thick, I can only use it in the warm weather, almost impossible to get it out of the bottle once the temp drops below 20 degrees. No animal testing, fair trade & organic ingredients ♥♥♥...

Absolutely! There are so many in the range that I want to try - all based on traditional African recipes, like Honey & Black Seed, Indian Hemp & Haitian Vetiver, Patchouli & Buriti ♥♥♥...

Mirenesse Endless Youth Pearly Glow Bubble Cleanser (60g, RRP $39.50)

Most of the Mirenesse products that appear here arrive via their VIP packs, and this one was a pleasant surprise, and the name says it all - soft creamy bubbles that melt away makeup, lovely fresh fragrance, contains centella asiatica, sage, green tea, tea tree & purslane. Mirenesse is a cruelty-free brand, and this particular product is made in South Korea ♥♥♥...

Probably not - it's lovely, but I prefer a gel for Summer and a balm for Winter ♥♥♥...

Sukin Super Greens Detoxifying Clay Masque (100ml, RRP $15.95)

OMG I actually finished a tub of mask! I have about five part-used ones on my bench, but this one I've had for the longest period (about 2 years) so it was time for it to earn a place in an empties post - no change or deterioration in the product though, just as effective as the first application. Gives any clogged pores a scare and draws out the goop, leaves my complexion cool, calm, deeply cleansed and refined ♥♥♥...

Goldwell Kerasilk Color Intensive Luster Mask (200ml, RRP $42.95)

I found this in one of beautyheaven's beautoriums, and it was love at first application. It's the palest lavender cream that smells sensational, and given I have a Goldwell Kerasilk treatment every three months, I figured this would help maintain the smooth silky finish, and it sure does that. Only needs to be left on for 10 minutes, but sometimes I sleep in it (with a beanie) to give my tresses an extra conditioning boost ♥♥♥...

Skin Republic Volcanic Ash Mud Sheet Mask (RRP $12.00)

Yeah, baby - one of three new mud varieties that came out recently. The others are Green Tea and Pink Clay, which I'm busting to try next. This one is utterly fab - the cloth is saturated with the clay/ash formula so you have to be careful applying it or it gets in your hair, not that it really matters. The flap that covers the nose is longer than others (yay!) and the overall fit is brilliant. The cloth stiffens as it dries (just like a cream mud mask would) and you need to rinse your face afterwards. Results are particularly awesome - my pores looked way smaller, my skin felt super clean and soft, and there was an overall radiance and refinement that I'd like to see permanently! ♥♥♥...

SPOTLIGHT: August Empties!...

Eeek! With all the Bloggiversary giveaways, I didn't get to post my August Empties, and September ones are in the box waiting their turn too, but first things first. Another big month - I decided to use up some small sample tubes that have been cluttering my drawers for some time, and I'm feeling good about clearing a wee bit more space. Ended up using it only below the knees to reduce the fallout...

Bioderma Hydrabio Light Cream (40ml, RRP $40.99)

This was a 15ml sample tube that came in one of my Marie Claire Ageless parcels (incidentally I'm shattered this quarterly box has been discontinued, it was SO good). A lovely lightweight cream that's intensely hydrating, has a delightful and delicate fragrance, and is suitable for sensitive skin. Absorbs within a few seconds leaving the skin surface silky soft and smooth. You really can't go wrong with anything by Bioderma ♥...

Maybe for next Winter...I have so many moisturisers stashed in my cupboard to try ♥...

Freeze 24.7 Anti-Aging Eye Serum (7ml, RRP US$56)

I forget how this came into my possession (a sub box?), but I sure didn't buy it, and with a US$56 price tag, that's a good thing. Have read mixed reviews of this product online - some gals say they would kill for it, while others (like me) experienced no change whatsoever in their issues (puffiness/dark circles/fine lines etc). It's a clear gel that doesn't hydrate at all, so you need an eye cream as well. There's definitely a tightening sensation as it dries, but for the outrageous cost of such a microscopic tube, I expected SOMETHING!...

Innoxa Gentle Cleansing Gel (75ml, RRP $14.99)

Disappointed with this - didn't like the smell, and while it sure is gentle and it's a gel, I didn't find it all that effective at removing the layers of slap that I wear on weekdays. Absolutely amazing list of organic ingredients, but hey, if it doesn't work all that well AND I don't like the fragrance, forget it...

Mirenesse Youth Switch DNA Stem Cell Booster Eye Cream (10g, RRP $59.95)

Gosh I have so much Mirenesse skincare in my collection that has arrived via VIP packs, so it was time to test out another. They do make lovely products, and the online reviews of some of them are astounding - I just find most of them to be nothing special as far as targeting my particular advanced ageing skin concerns. This eye cream is super hydrating, the packaging is stunning, it has a nifty little paddle applicator (although I always use my pinky), but obviously I don't need DNA Stem Cells as I noticed no change in my crinkles. Mind you there was no further deterioration while I used it, but I'd rather spend my $60 on something that gives me visible results in a few weeks...

Nature's Care All Natural Paw Paw Lip Balm (10g, RRP $3.99)

Excellent lip balm, no better or worse than any of the other Paw Paw varieties out there for a similar price. Available from the supermarket, I find this type of liquid balm to be more hydrating than any stick variety, they're just not as convenient to apply. This is an Aussie brand ♥...

NeoStrata Renewal Cream (30g, RRP $58.50)

I've tried quite a few NeoStrata creams now, and am suitably impressed with the quality, and their range is quite extensive. I reckon it's a case of finding the right product for the issues you're dealing with. I wanted this one to work on my skin texture and pore size - didn't notice any change, but it felt like it was doing something (tingling). According to their website, there was no pore size reduction observed until the product had been used for 3 months, so I probably need to line up a few tubes and actually stick with something for a while lol...

Neutrogena Hydro Boost (50g, RRP $24.99)

Another sample size, this one came with a beautyheaven beautorium order - loved it! Very pleasant fragrance, very hydrating, great for daytime as it absorbs COMPLETELY, I prefer something that leaves a trace for overnight, but this is a beaut day cream ♥...

Face Masks

7th Heaven Charcoal Masque (15g, RRP $4.99)

After falling head over heels for their Dead Sea Mud Pac, I was all set to be hooked on this charcoal one (considering I'm charcoal-obsessed), but to be honest...it scared me. It's an exfoliator as well - walnut shells, but it felt like coarse sand (or fine gravel), and after the first few finger swipes, I didn't dare massage it in. Maybe I got a dud batch with extra granules, but I would class this product under "dermabrasion" because it almost hurt when it came time to wash it off. I had to rub quite a bit and my face was bright pink for a while afterwards. Admittedly my skin felt fantastic after it calmed down, but I wasn't mentally prepared for this level of resurfacing from a face masque - yikes!...

Australis Stayput! Longwear Foundation (23ml, RRP $16.49)

Well this surprised the hell out of me - so cheap and SO good! Absolutely lasts all day, the colour match is fantastic, although I'm bummed that either the label has come off or it never had one, anyway I have no idea what shade I purchased, so I'll have to take the bottle with me to buy another one (there's still a teeny bit left). The pump works brilliantly, coverage is full without looking caked on, SPF 15, and it's not tested on animals. Winner! ♥...

Repurchase?

Promised myself I'd finish off at least 2 of the 14 (gahhhh!) I have in rotation at the moment, but I will certainly buy this again - it will be terrific for the warmer weather when I desperately need a longwear formula ♥...

Maybelline Brow Satin - Dark Blonde (?, RRP $16.95)

My latest must-have brow product! I was perfectly happy with the ModelsPrefer crayon I was using, but I changed my hair colour slightly (amped up the ashy content to counteract the orangey tones it was developing) and consequently the usual brow pencil shade was too warm. So I bought several new products to try, all epic fails except for this one, and I was immediately hooked. It's the propelling kind, and it has one major flaw - if you wind it up more than a millimetre, it breaks off. Happened quite a few times before I twigged, and I went through the whole tube in less than 3 weeks. But I've got the hang of it now. Possibly the most realistic brow product I've ever used, the neutral tone is perfect for my new colouring. There's a spring-loaded smudger on the other end which also dispenses miniscule amounts of powder filler, but I never use it as it tends to flatten the hairs too much - instead I use a standard mascara brush to tidy up. Lasts all day ♥♥♥...

You betcha - bought several in fact from the Chemist Warehouse half-price sale, I reckon I have enough to keep me going for at least 6 months ♥♥♥...

NYX Ombre Blush - Mauve Me (8g, RRP $17.95)

Methinks this is my favourite blush EVER - the colour is just perfect for my skin tone, it's the only blush in my kit that makes me look like I'm genuinely blushing. By that I mean it looks real, and the fact that I used it up ENTIRELY over a period of 12 months says it all. I mean, I don't think I've EVER hit pan on a blush before ♥♥♥...

Fragrance

Versace Bright Crystal Absolu EDP (90ml, RRP $150)

For me Spring is just not Spring without this fragrance - I absolutely adore it, so crisp and fresh and feminine. Raved about it 3 years ago HERE, and it will always be in my collection. It's such a beautiful bottle, I've kept the gorgeous faceted lid to use as a paper weight ♥♥♥...

Yes indeedy, plus I have a spare as I expect to go through the latest bottle within 6 months. Incidentally I have never paid full price for it, I usually buy it on spesh from feelingsexy ♥♥♥...
