EOTD: Taupe and Teal...

Golly gee, now this takes me back - way WAY back to before I first started joining in the beautyheaven EOTD thread, and TAUPE was all the rage. It was round about the time that Maybelline released their tattoos (and Tough as Taupe), and I went bonkers buying anything and everything I could find in that particular shade. Actually I went so crazy over this colour I wore it all the time, and consequently became increasingly bored with it, to the point where I packed all the palettes away under the heading of "been there, done that"...

But what a darn shame - it's such a pretty hue, and fabulous if you're wanting something subtle. So there I was looking at my collection last week and thought, hey, why not give it another airing? My fave palettes back then were the essence ones below ("Under a Cherry Tree" and "over the taupe"), and I was pretty chuffed to discover they're still workable, as is the MNY Tough as Taupe tattoo, which I used as my base...

I applied the shadows exactly in the order they're pictured above (marked with the "*") from left to right, and the deep brown from the Over the Taupe palette went underneath. Naturally I had to satisfy my craving for colour somehow or other (lol), so I added MUA Fashionista Supermodel Khol Eyeliner in Naomi on the waterline - a stunning shimmery teal. Doesn't last more than a couple of hours, but it was enough to provide a much needed punch to the whole look...

I just love rediscovering something I've written off - this is such a soft and feminine hue, and it's no wonder I wore it so much all those years ago...

What's your feeling about taupe? Is it something you wear often, or do you regard it as old hat?

Take care of you,
kats xxx

  2. I can definitely wear taupe, Kat, but my eyes just don't take to teal. Your eyes take to anything !!! It must be so exciting being able to "play" with all your numerous eyeshadow palettes knowing that there are very few colours that you wouldn't use.

    1. My dear Arty, I can assure you that before I added the teal, this look was totally bleah - teal always gives my eyes a lift because of their colour, but neutrals in general (creams, beiges, browns, taupes) do nothing for me at all and I have to work real hard to make them distinctive enough. I bet you look fab in purple hon xxx

  3. As usual Kats...love it and stunning!!! The smoky shades on your lid blend together so beautiful and they make the teal just bursts out to capture the lovely natural shade of your eyes. The colours all work together so nicely.
I'll have to check out my collection to see if I have similar shades. I really love the teal :D

    1. Oh you gorgeous gal Gemma, thanks for such lovely words hon - as I mentioned to Arty just before, without the teal, this look was a fail in my colouring book lol, way too drab for my particular taste ♥

  4. Taupe is a shade I like, too, but rarely wear. This look makes me want to break out my taupes! Love it paired with the blue liner, very beautiful, hun xx

    1. For me it really needs a colour boost Indie, although a super shimmery one might be enough on it's own. Would love to see how you apply yours hon ♥

  5. Smiled when I read your blog as I recently rediscovered my Mac taupe eyeshadow and did a look using Orb, Taupe and Haux which used to be a fave of mine. I too felt like a pop of colour, in a complete coincidence, a teal eye of horus liner. Wish I had taken photo now.
    Love this look on you.
