SPOTLIGHT: Jewellery Collection (Part 4) - Watches...

Who still wears a watch these days? So many of the folks I know don't - now that mobiles are attached at the hip (and almost an anatomical extension), they don't bother with a watch to tell them the time. But I doubt I'll ever lose my love for these "old-fashioned" accessories. I actually put them in the same category as perfume and earrings - I feel naked without one! To be expected I guess - there's been a watch on my left wrist almost every day of my life since I was 11 years old. Mind you back then I usually only possessed ONE timepiece at any given moment (and it had to be manually wound), but these days I regard them as an integral component of my wardrobe, and as such, of course I need LOTS of different colours and styles to co-ordinate with my outfits lol...

I have quite a few (42 to be exact) and I've been collecting them for the better part of 3 years - the majority of the above rainbow selection were purchased from BigW, there's a few gems I found at Lovisa, and a couple from Target. With savvy buying I haven't paid more than $25 for any one item, and some were as little as $7 - mind you whenever I need to replace a battery (at $19.95 a pop, it costs more than the watch!), I do an assessment as to whether I still love it, and the same goes for when the band needs replacing. But because I have so many, they rarely get to the shabby stage, and when I'm not wearing them, I disconnect the winder so that the battery isn't being drained...

Here's a closeup view of the ones I particularly love - honestly, I reckon they don't look half bad, considering how inexpensive they are...

I reach for the below blacks, greys and whites most often because they go with just about anything. Again all these were ridiculously cheap - the small watch in the middle with the metal link band and pearly green face is the only one of any real monetary value (love at first sight at one of Angus & Coote's half price sales)...

And here are what I call my jellies - almost all from Aldi (for $7), and one or two from KMart for a similarly low price - no greens as they only ever seem to come in fleuro shades. These are invariably my weekenders, although not in the hot weather as I tend to sweat too much under the plastic...

Like the rest of my costume jewellery collection, storing them all is a bit of an issue - currently they're in four separate boxes, but I'm revamping my entire accessory storage arrangement when I take a week off later this month, and will post a piccie then...

So how do you feel about watches - do you love 'em or leave 'em? Are you a "one quality watch" gal?

Take care of you,
kats xxx

  1. I've got 2 watches - a gold-ish one I bought the last time I was in the States & another silver watch with a crystalised face from Prouds, which I bought for myself as a Christmas present last year. Now that I've got into the habit of wearing a watch whilst out & about, I know what my Mum was talking about when she said she too felt naked without one!

    1. Yep it seems to be a thing with the older generation - just habit I guess, it was the only way we could tell the time in those days lol. Delighted to hear you treated yourself Shell ♥♥♥

  2. I'm the same, have worn a watch since I was about 11 or 12 and can't be without it even though I often look at my phone. I'm a "one quality watch" at this point but I have a lot of pre-requisites; must have all numbers on the face due to my dyscalculia, must have small enough face to fit on my skinny wrist, must have either stretchy band or small enough strap again due to skinny wrist . . . so it's easier to get one and stick to it!

    1. Sounds like a good plan Beth - I had a beautiful gold Tissot that was given to me by my parents that was my one and only for around 15 years, and the burglars snatched it, boo! How wonderful that you still have yours hon - must be a beauty. I look at my phone too, but folks get edgy when I do that in a meeting, and I can sneak a peak at my watch without them knowing lol xxx

    2. Oh lol, it's not the same one, I've been through a few since then but I've had this one about five years. It's a rose gold Skagen (before rose gold was cool haha)

    3. Well thanks for clearing that up Beth - I was thinking, wow, they sure don't make them like they used to! Still 5 years is pretty good hey - mmm rose gold Skagen, trust you to be ahead of the fashion game ♥

  3. I don't even have a watch! I just use my iPhone for the time. I love your watch collection though, especially the rainbow of colours. And the 'jellies' look fun!

    1. Oh wow Di - well you're not alone sweetie. Still I can't imagine what it would be like to have a bare left wrist - guess I could always load it up with bangles and bracelets ha ha ♥♥♥

Nowadays I mainly wear my turquoise coloured Fitbit but I do have three other watches, all of which need a new battery!

    1. Sounds gorgeous Ingrid - but oh yeah, I know the pain of having flat batteries. Until I figured out to pull out the winder, it was costing me a fortune!

  5. What an amazing collection, Kats! I am guilty of no longer wearing a watch. Although, I do like them as a fashion accessory, I probably wouldn't use them to tell time! lol xo

    1. No guilt there Amy - actually I reckon the only time I DON'T wear one is when I'm gardening, and then I get into all sorts of trouble because my hands are too dirty to look at my phone, and I end up spending WAY too much time with my plants xxx

    1. Lol Lily, if you can manage without one, it does cut out one more dilemma when you're getting dressed - takes me AGES to choose just the right one!

  7. Love this Kats! I wear a watch almost every day. I have 2, a sports watch (that I wear the most) and a white jelly with rhinestones on the face, as my fancy watch! Love your collection! Tal xo

  8. Whoa! What a collection! I own 2 watches: a silver one I got for my 21st birthday & I wear it every day. I also own a cheap plastic one for when I go camping or anything where I might get dirty or wet. You can buy batteries fairly cheap at the Reject Shop or even cheaper at those cheapie dollar shops. You just have to know the proper size.

    1. Thanks for the tip about the batteries hon - I'm a bit nervous about cracking open a watch, but I might give it a go with one of the $10 ones, sure I've got a jewellers screwdriver somewhere in the drawer ♥♥♥

  9. You have convinced me that I need more watches in my life. I own two watches to be exact - one that I got for my birthday from my parents which is now sadly too small for me (I seriously need to get an extension) because it makes me feel like a million bucks when I wear it, and a cheaper one that's rather pretty but I always forget about. I adore your collection, and will definitely be checking out the cheaper type places for some gems! xx

    1. There's some really pretty ones around Jasmine - I've only had one cheapie die on me so far, the rest are all going strong. You must have your special one adjusted though hon - anything that makes you feel that good is so worth it ♥♥♥
