EOTD: Sugarpill Midori...

Ahhh matte eye shadows - gotta love them for their versatility. The thing is, with a shimmery or sparkly formula, it's relatively easy to give them a boost to make them even more light reflective, but far more difficult to tone them down without losing their vibrancy. Mattes on the other hand can be worn as is for a soft velvety look, or lifted to a magically soft iridescence, so long as the pigment is powerful enough. As far as I'm concerned, Sugarpill ones are the leaders of the pack in the intensity and blendability departments...

So this is Sugarpill Midori - a totally matte emerald that I used in my recent dark and broody Wintery Red & Green EOTD, but it's been transformed into a rich and precious pearl by patting it down over a sparkly base - essence Longlasting Eye Pencil in the shade "I Have A Green", which I also used on my waterline, and lower lashline. On this inner corner is a light dusting of Sugarpill Tako (white), and for the crease I added Sleek Fern from the V2 Matte palette...

This is such a gorgeous shade of green that intensifies my eye colour like no other...

I would never have known about Sugarpill shadows if it wasn't for my darling friend, Hissycat Krissy, who sent me the whole set in exchange for something or other (I forget what), but I will be forever grateful for the pleasure she still brings to me from this rainbow box of goodies

Have you ever played around with mattes to see what else they can do?

Take care of you,
kats xxx

  1. I love the vibrancy! I always use a lighter shade on the inner third or so of the eyelid too.

    1. Ahh a gal after my own heart - I love the richness of this green too. I often forget to add a paler hue on the inner corner, but whenever I remember, it really enhances the whole look ♥

  2. That green is perfect with your eyes - and with your hair colour? OMG magic!! I'd say you should wear green every day, but I know how good you look in blue...and orange...and pink...and the list goes on! I'm so glad I sent you that palette, you definitely do it justice :)

    1. So glad you like it Cat - I'm often tempted to stick with the green, but I don't want to EVER get tired of it so I mix things up (as you know) on a regular basis. These are the finest shadows in my kit darling - 100% consistency, and every single one of them is mind bogglingly pigmented. T H A N K Y O U again treasure ♥♥♥

  3. Love this green. My first ever high end beauty purchase was an Emerald Green Chanel Eye Pencil that I used to use as a mono shadow sometimes. I loved it, it was matte, a very similar colour to this shadow. I have never found another eye pencil like it, they either have shimmer or too much black #first world problems.
    <3 this look.
So glad I met you and discovered this blog. It emboldens me with my makeup choices and stops makeup ruts.

    1. Ha ha Pink Hornet - definitely first world beauty problems! I so rarely, actually I don't think EVER use an eye product on it's own - it's never exactly what I want, and besides I have so much fun experimenting with different finishes and shades. Delighted too that we could meet hon - beautyheaven has opened up a whole new world for me, both in make up discoveries, and finding new friends ♥

    1. How wonderful to see you here Laura - you are most kind my dear, and I thank you for your uplifting comments. It's such a thrill to be able to share my passion - it's something that developed quite late in my life, and if it gives gals some ideas to broaden their own horizons, then I'm even more delighted ♥

  5. Um...........wow! You continue to take my breath away, Kat, which I think would be impossible to do after the many many gorgeous combinations that you have created. But, here you have done it again. I just love the richness of this green look. I need to try a matte over a shimmer, I have never thought of doing that before. Thank you for your inspiration, hun xx

    1. Lol Indie, you say such wonderful things, thanks ever so much hon ♥ Let me know how you go with the matte-over-shimmer-base thingy - I so love finding different ways to use shadows. It's only a very subtle difference, but I reckon it gives the pigment some extra dimension...

That green is divine. I love the way it makes the vibrancy of your hair burst out. I must admire I only really try natural matte shades. I need to start exploring more.
Kris is such a wonderful mate for sending you the set. :) xx

  8. This looks fantastic! What a beautiful shade of green. You're right, it really intensifies your eyes and hair! You're lip colour is lovely too.
I do like using matte shades but most of the time I just can't stop using big shimmery shades. I love sparkle!

    1. Gosh Bec thanks so much for your kind words hon. I had to laugh because I'm the same when it comes to shimmers - can barely contain myself long enough to play around with mattes. I went through a stage of using glittery products too - I seem to have gotten over that, but not shimmers ♥
