LOTD: LacurApocalips...

The other day, one of my darling followers (Arty Girl) reminded me about Rimmel Apocalips Solstice, a gorgeous lip lacquer that I've been neglecting of late. Which is kinda strange because I think the colour is quite heavenly, but I believe it's just because of the quantity of lip products I have in my drawer (what a problem to have!), and I have a tendency to go through phases of wearing the same things over and over again before I remember to cycle through some of the other beauties...

So bless you Arty for jogging my memory! This really is such a special shade, soft and nudey, and I was in the mood for something more natural looking today. The packaging is modern, different, and reminds me of a crystal, and any product that leaves behind a wee bit of stain when it wears off is a bonus for my pasty pout. While I do love this non-sticky yet glossy formula, I don't find these lacquers moist or dense enough to wear alone, and invariably apply a hydrating lipstick underneath, or something else over the top...

And as is so often the case, one re-discovery leads to another - in the same drawer, I spotted a Lacura Minerals Lip Gloss that I picked up in Aldi months ago for less than $5. It doesn't have a name, but it's a beautifully delicate beigy-pink with a very faint powdery fragrance, and an ideal partner for the Solstice. I'm actually quite taken with this Minerals range from Lacura - I wear the bronzer every day (about to run out!), and I have the blush too, but it annoys the hell out of me that I haven't seen any of these on the Aldi shelves ever since :-(

That beef aside, the packaging is super cute, compact, the formula is moisture rich and glossy, and although the applicator is relatively small, it still loads up enough product to not bug me. It even plumps up my lips a little...

I reckon these two look just as pretty together on my bench as they do on my lips!

Take care of you,
kats xxx

  1. Thanks Kat for giving me my name a mention :). I love my Solstice but I can see how the Lacura gives the whole look a pinky tinge rather than a peachy one. We don't have an Aldi in WA as yet, so I'm still patiently waiting.
I love great bargains too. I scored my Solstice for a whopping $1 !!! Last item left standing from Kmart's throw out bin; further reduced from $5.
We would get on splendidly if we lived near to each other but alas, you are in Sydney :(.

    1. Well thank YOU hon for all your detailed comments - this lacquer would probably still be languishing in my drawer in 6 months time if it wasn't for you :-) And gee wiz, I thought I was doing well to get my Apocalips for half price, but $1? Whoa! Gonna call you the bargain queen from now on ha ha. Probably just as well we're in different states though - I'd never get the housework done because we'd be creating eye looks all day long lol...

  2. Solstice is gorgeous, I love it! The only thing that sucks about the Apocalips range is that they never set, so they don't survive eating or drinking.

    1. Yeah they're not the best stayers on the market hey Sarah - I haven't found anything that lasts as long as L'Oreal 2 Step Lipsticks. I have a post in the pipeline about how I've been using the shades that don't suit my colouring, just gotta find the time to finish the write-up :-)

  3. Oh this is a beautiful pairing kats, great pick! :)

I have the Apocalips in Nova which is a fun bright pink to wear around and I really like how creamy it is and they have some gorgeous shades! That's so great that you're enjoying the Aldi Minerals range, I wasn't brave enough to try them out! It's also a shame their products come and go so soon, if I find some I'll make sure to get them...and maybe a few extras for you :)

I hope you've been having a great weekend, have a lovely week ahead!

    1. Hey sweetie, I have & love Nova too - it's been rattling around my cabinet for months as well, will definitely get an airing this week, probably tomorrow as I'll be wearing black and grey and it will lift the dreariness of Monday lol. Sadly the Aldi Minerals seem to be one of those ranges that only appears in the middle of the shop stands, not down the back where all the regular makeup stuff is, so I'll just have to wait till the next special. But if you see the bronzer, please count me in for two! Hope the week is kind to you too themissus xxx

  4. Kat, my quest to use up some lip products before buying more, makes it so much harder when I see beautiful LOTD posts such as yours! Apocolips is on my wishlist, and I need some now! lol

    1. I think it would look terrific on you hon, also Celestial is a reasonably bold medium pink that I reckon would suit you too :-)
