July 2020 Empties & Giveaway!...

Well now, in comparison to many of my other Empties posts, July was a bit of a fizzer - my collection tub was only two thirds full lol! Understandable as I took a break from the under-eye patches (I used 24 the month before), I was trialling a few new skincare items so my usual ones went on hold, plus I have quite a few products in rotation so I'll probably finish a whole bunch at the same time, which means that next month should be back to normal max volume ha ha. There are a few newbies in this collection though, so at least there's something interesting for you to read...

Colgate Plax Alcohol-Free Gentle Mint Mouth Wash (500ml, RRP $6.49)

Because I get bored easily, and also so I wouldn't tire of the taste of the White Glo mouthwash that's always in my Regulars section, I chose this one mainly because of the description "Gentle Mint". Most mouth washes are way too strong for me - I don't like it when they sting, burn my tongue, or inhaling the fumes makes me cough, and this particular variety doesn't give me any such grief. In fact, it might well become my favourite - delish fresh mint taste, and it's available at the supermarket. The only negative is that it doesn't have any whitening power ♥♥♥...

Du-it Tough Hands Intensive Skin Repair (150g, RRP $11.99)

I'm a bit naughty when it comes to hand creams - I have around eight partially used ones in my bedside drawer, so I'm now on a mission to use them all up before I open anything else (wish me luck!). I think this sample tube was a freebie from a beautyheaven Rewards Room pack, but regardless of its origin, if your hands are in poor shape, it's really something special. Amazingly rich and restorative, it absorbs well and doesn't leave a greasy film on the surface - just enough to keep the healing going, especially overnight. Barely any scent but I don't mind as it's such a great cure for cracked and damaged paws ♥♥♥...

Definitely need a tube of this on hand for when I'm doing dirty work and neglect to wear gloves ♥♥♥...

Sukin Arkie Hand Wash (500ml, RRP $9.95)

A lovely scent mix of tangerine, mandarin, lavender & vanilla, I bought this primarily because I spotted it at Coles, and my household is powering through the hand wash these days (like everybody else). Foams well, doesn't dry my hands, and with jojoba, avocado & rosehip oils, aloe vera and chamomile, well how could I not toss it into the trolley? ♥♥♥...

Weleda Skin Food Light (75ml, RRP $24.95)

Ahh, Weleda - I'm a late boarder on this bus, but I'm making up for the lost time. There's a bit of a story behind how I discovered how AMAZING this stuff is. I knocked over a cup of freshly made tea onto my hand - my arm was in a sling from a major shoulder injury the day before, and literally trapped the just-off-the-boil water against my skin. In short, I had a rather severe burn across the back of my hand. Did all the right things with the ice, but it was bright red and very sore for days. Once the sting had gone I applied some of this magical potion every time I thought of it - let's say up to 10 times in a day. It was so soothing and cooling. After a few weeks, the skin started to peel - looked terrible while it was going on, dark brown and very wrinkly. But I kept applying the Skin Food Light until all the dead skin peeled off, revealing...smooth, clear, non-scarred skin. Unbelievable! My left hand now looks 10 years younger than my right. Weleda, you are my hero ♥♥♥...

Olay Eyes Pro-Retinol Eye Treatment (15ml, RRP $48.99)

Thanks to Fawn ♥ for putting me onto this gem. Improvements in under-eye skin texture within a matter of days, same for crows feet. I'm trying the new purple retinol one right now, and that has maintained the benefits already gained, but no startling new developments. I will always have a tube of this red jewel on hand. Pricey, but regularly on special, and I honestly don't care a fig about price if it works, which it does. No change to the baggies, but that's a given ♥♥♥...

Oskia Renaissance Cleansing Gel (35ml, RRP $?)

This sample tube came in last year's lookfantastic Advent Calendar. The problem with these boxes is that a lot of the products simply aren't available anywhere in Australia, this one included (although ASOS will ship for free). So if you fall in love with any of them, you're pretty much screwed. I didn't exactly fall in love with this one (fortunately) but it's a lovely pink cleanser - it's almost an oil that melts into the skin and removes everything, with minimal suds. Smells a bit soapy, but tolerable ♥...

Nah - I prefer my Neutrogena Pink Grapefruit cleanser any day ♥...

Skin Physics Dragon's Blood Facial Sculpting Gel (50ml, RRP $59.99)

This was sent to me to trial by theorycrew, and I'll be forever grateful. Loved it so much I bought two more jars when it was on special recently at Priceline, which is the only place you can buy it. It's a soother and a smoother, absorbs super quick and leaves my skin all glowy, plump & refreshed. Unlike other gels I've tried recently, this one doesn't leave any tacky feeling on the skin surface. Mega hydrating with very little scent (sort of earthy, coconut coffee maybe?) and I believe it's making a difference to my jawline. Watch this space ♥♥♥...

The second time, came out brown-ash, and third time, golden highlights. What is it with grey hair dye that no-one seems to be able to make it?...

Maybelline Brow Ultra Slim Eyebrow Pencil (RRP $15.95)

So Maybelline dropped my hero Total Temptation Brow Definer from their range - boo! This is the substitute, and it's a pretty good one. The thing is, now that I'm going silvery-grey (or attempting to at least) my brows look weird being blonde and even weirder if I go up a level. So I use this to create the shape, and then go over them very lightly with the MNY Tattoo Brow Pomade in taupe, because this Ultra Slim doesn't come in taupe - boo! Believe me, I've tried 15 different colours and brands in the last 3 months, even grey and they all make me look like a clown, or Sylvester Stallone's mother. So, for now, it's a two-step process, and that's working just fine, just takes longer ♥♥♥...

Because of this primer, Maybelline you are forgiven for the above. My regular is by DB Cosmetics, but my local Price Attack is ALWAYS out of stock, so I tried this and it's almost identical. Does the same pore minimising and mattifying trick, and at least it's readily available in lots of places. In June I bought four tubes for half price at Priceline ♥♥♥...

As you can see my passion for cloth masks is a permanent condition, and with the market expanding exponentially (who ISN'T bringing out sheet masks?), there are always new ones to try as well as faves to revisit, so let's get on with the reviews ♥...

DU'IT Tough Hands For Her (75g, RRP $9.95)

From memory, this was a freebie with a beautyheaven beautorium parcel last year, and I've only just gotten around to giving it a go. Was very pleasantly surprised, a lovely lightweight but potent non-greasy hand cream with a baby powder fragrance. Absorbs very well and leaves my hands feeling super smooth and soft ♥♥...

Johnson's Baby Cotton Buds (Box of 60, RRP $2.99)

These are one of three types of cotton buds that I have on my bench, mainly for makeup cleanups after major disasters, but I occasionally use them to help soak up the excess moisture in my ears after I've washed my hair, and they're also useful for cleaning out my eye/lip pencil sharpeners. Being so big and fat they're super absorbent ♥♥♥...

Natura Siberica Oblepikha Shower Gel (400ml, RRP $10.99)

Interestingly I didn't like this shower gel at all when it first came out - the fragrance put me off, way too astringent and I cringed whenever I sniffed it in store. Back then it reminded me a bit of cat pee. But I decided to give it another try a few months ago, and now I'm quite taken with it - refreshing, non-drying, and it foams well. Just goes to show that my nose definitely has moods, and I've learned to not say "never" ha ha ♥...

Yes - it will be great for summer when I want something zingy ♥...

Beauty by Nicholas Plump It Up (50ml, RRP $59.99)

Regrettably, I didn't get this at all. I tried using it multiple ways - under makeup, over makeup, overnight, during the day, but no discernible impact on any of my fine lines or deep creases. I tried different amounts (using too much results in flaking), patting it on, massaging it in, but...nada - I think perhaps I'm too far gone lol!...

Beechworth Honey Meadow Honey & Grapefruit Gentle Scrub (100ml, RRP $12)

This is as effective as my fave Bush Honey & Macadamia one (reviewed HERE) but the fragrance isn't as delish ♥♥...

essano Clear Complexion Detoxifying Serum with Probiotics (30ml, RRP $29.99)

A bit embarrassed to say this was gifted at the beautyheaven Glosscars event back in March. I used it for several weeks (and loved it) and then had to switch to quite a few other serums I was "officially" trialling, and only just got to finish it off last month. It's a beauty and a blessing if you have oily or combination skin. Upon application, it mattifies the skin surface, and over time it reduced the oil production on my nose, and for both those reasons, it's going to be a winner for the humid Sydney Summer. Nivea Hydro Care Lip Balm (4.8g, RRP $4.49)

Another one I just didn't "get", or perhaps it's just that my lips are outrageously dry - this did very little to soothe my pout. I kept it next to my computer and found myself applying and reapplying it every 15 minutes or so. I honestly didn't feel any benefit from it, which is odd as it's highly rated in most online reviews. It just seemed to soak in, and then vanish...

Nutrimetics Restore Anti-Ageing Eye Creme with Sauvignon Blanc Concentrate (15ml, RRP $52)

Bought this on special (almost half price) and I'm kicking myself for not buying more, but I rarely stock up before trying because, well, who knows? Anyways it's a gem of an eye cream. Unlike others that have a microscopic nozzle, this one has a fat cap that won't disappear down the plughole if you drop it (one day my sink is going to block up!). Very rich, quite thick but absorbs well and yet still leaves a surface film, delicate and pleasant floral fragrance, and...it firms. Woo hoo! My hoods appeared less saggy (which is a miracle) and the lid surface crinkles weren't anywhere near as prominent. Did nothing for my under-eye baggies, but not ever having found an eye cream that treats ALL my issues, I'm prepared to use this above my eyes, and another brand below ♥♥♥...

Had high hopes for this, but I only had a 5ml sample, and to be fair, it's just not enough for me to see any difference. Fortunately for moi, my darling friend and fellow blogger Lara from RivetLicker recently gifted me with a 30ml bottle, so I'll be having another go at this shortly ♥...

SPOTLIGHT: June Empties!...

I know, I know, how crazy is this photo? Yes lovelies, I had a BLITZ last month on all my part-used products. To be honest I was running out of space in my shower caddies (where I keep washes & both face & body scrubs) as well as on the top of my vanity, so I made a vow to clear the decks a bit, and this is the result - slam dunk into the bin, and boy do I feel good! There were so many containers with just a few applications left, so I'm giving myself a hearty pat on the back. Mind you, the vacated spots have already been filled with newer releases and old faves, but that's what happens when you have a beauty product addiction...

Du'It Tough Hands For Her Intensive Skin Repair (75g, RRP $9.95)

I received a sample size (20g) with my beautyheaven Beautorium order - never heard of this brand before, but I do love this hand cream. More of a gel than a cream, it smells quite pleasant (almondy), and absorbs reasonably well, and the softening and healing affect it had on my hands was quite amazing. My only beef is that for something so runny, it should have a nozzle rather than just an open top because I found way too much came out, and you don't need much of this to be effective. Mind you this may just be a symptom of the sample size ♥...

This smells FANTASTIC and leaves my skin ridiculously soft - the only thing that has me puzzled is that the label says "wait for 5-10 minutes to ensure your skin absorbs all the natural hydrating goodness". I haven't figured out how to do that in the shower unless I turn off the water, and I ain't gonna do that in Winter lol! ♥...

Holey socks Batman! A 10ml bottle came in my DJ's Sampler in February 2016 - to think it's been sitting in my drawer for almost 18 months, when my face could have been basking in it's goodness long before now. I think this is THE serum for me - I don't know if I can express how much I love it, the smell of it alone feeds my soul. Is it a sin to adore a beauty product so much? When I massage it into my face, I can hear my skin cells singing hallelujah ♥...

Natural Instinct Refreshing Foaming Cleanser (110ml, RRP $9.95)

I did enjoy this, and am starting to explore the rest of the range. While I'm a foaming cleanser fan, there's a limit to how much foam I can tolerate lol, and thankfully this one has minimal suds that are creamy and refreshing, the scent is floral and fresh, and there's none of the usual chemicals. It's actually vegan and of course not tested on animals, contains Goji Berry & Kakadu Plum ♥...

This is a lovely cream, but for $53, I expected to see some obvious difference in my skin texture by the end of the tube - hydrates very well and very softening, but no "...smoothing wrinkles from the inside..."

With bamboo particles, this really appealed to me, but it's so darn runny, I ended up using it as a body scrub - it just drips through my fingers and I wasted stacks the first few times I used it, so then I squirted it onto my flannel, and it worked just fine...

No - I prefer my body scrubs to be creamy and more like a paste, and it's just not practical to use it as a face scrub...

True Essentials Deep Clean Face Scrub (150ml, RRP $4)

A reasonably new range from Coles, these are quite good value, but this scrub is another one that's way too runny for my taste...

Very similar to the gold one, not quite so glamorous (or scary for the cat). Love these ones that come in 2 pieces as they fit my face so much better, and I think it helps the process if the mask is actually touching your skin in all places. This one contains Sea Minerals, Collagen and Argan Oil, and it leaves my face plump, soft and supple ♥...

Bought this box on special at Priceline, I think it was around $33, and for that price, I loved it. For the regular price of $20 each, I'm not so sure if they're worth it. LOVE that there's a bit that extends down the neck, but it doesn't work so well as it comes unstuck unless you lay completely still. But the mask itself is super hydrating and my face looked plumper and firmer afterwards ♥...
