September 2020 Empties & Giveaway!...

Hmm yes well, I'd planned to have these up in October along with the other two giveaways, but with one thing and another (including a bunch of beautyheaven reviews), I didn't get there. Then for one brief (and fleeting) moment, I thought maybe I should combine them with the October Empties, but as you can probably imagine, I couldn't fit them all on my bench, let alone in one camera shot lol! So anyway, I'm continuing on with the usual process, and fingers crossed I can get last month's ones up before we hit December - eek, December!...

Body

Bosisto's Kakadu Plum & Lemon Myrtle Nourishing Body Wash (500ml, RRP $8)
Lovely body wash with a deliciously crisp & refreshing lemon scent - love the simplicity of the packaging and that it's available at Coles. No SLS content, Aussie-made, not tested on animals, and it's vegan, but still not quite moisturising enough compared with the others in my rack. Boy am I getting fussy! ...
Repurchase?
Maybe, if I have trouble getting hold of my other faves ...

Lanolips Rose Hand Cream Intense (50ml, RRP $16.99)
This was gifted to me so long ago I can't remember the source, and even though I had broken the seal, it's been in a dark drawer so it was perfectly fine. Not quite as intense as I'd hoped, and I have others that give my hands a richer treatment, but that rose fragrance? Heavenly! Absorbs quickly and completely, and it was particularly effective on my shrivelled cuticles ...
Repurchase?
Yes, if for nothing else than the fabulous scent ...

No Pong All Natural Anti Odourant (35g, RRP $8.95)
Small quantity left in the tin from last summer's series on aluminium-free deodorants - full review is HERE. Excellent product and 100% effective against odour & wetness - it didn't score 10/10 but only because getting the lid off is a challenge for me ...
Repurchase?
I would if my other preferred ones weren't available. This would be ideal for travellers because it's so small ...

Regulars
Colgate Plax Alcohol Free Gentle Mint Mouth Wash (500ml, RRP $6.49)
Reach Dentotape (20m, RRP $2.99)
White Glo Charcoal Total Mouth Detox Whitening Mouthwash (500ml, RRP $6.99)
White Glo Micellar Whitening Toothpaste (100ml, RRP $5.99)
White Glo Toothbrush (free with the above toothpaste)

Face

Bioré Charcoal Cleansing Micellar Water (300ml, RRP $10.99)
So many micellars on the market and after doing a whole bunch of research when they first appeared over 5 years ago, this is the one that I'm sticking with, well for the time being anyway. It's highly effective, a great price and I LOVE the fragrance. It's not that it works any better than many others, but the scent is so appealing. Beats me why this hasn't appeared in my Regulars section before as I've bought many bottles, but it will next time ...
Repurchase?
That's a yes ...

Nutrimetics Ultra Care+ Super-C & Retinol Serum  (20ml, RRP $70)
I haven't been all that impressed with the cheaper serums from this brand (mind you the Platinum one is sensational), and while this is still somewhat pricey, I bought it because they had a special deal of buy-one-get-one-free, so for $35, I was in! The serum itself is actually pretty darn fabulous, but the packaging sucks - a skinny little tube that I had trouble holding, and the product kinda squirts down the outside of the cap rather than onto the fingers. The serum is very thick, rich and viscous, and I would struggle to spread it onto my face in the cold weather, but apart from these issues, it made my skin look amazing - glowy, refined, plump, and a delicate floral fragrance, pretty much everything you want from a serum ...
Repurchase?
Absolutely, when it's on special, but not in the cooler months ...

Olay Regenerist Retinol 24 Night Serum (30ml, RRP $59.99)
The jury is still out on this one. To be fair, this bottle wasn't used continuously as I was trialling the Skin Physics sculpting gel below and excluding all other products, so I'll reserve final judgement until I've had time to use another complete bottle without interruption. In the interim, I can say that it's a terrific serum that causes absolutely zero irritation, but I can't tell yet if it's any better for my age-related skin issues than others I've used. Adore the purple packaging, and I was surprised that I didn't mind the fact that it is fragrance-free (no fragrance is better than one that I dislike). Other advantages are that Olay products are regularly on special, so I'll never EVER have to pay full price for it, and it has maintained the pore refinement that I was seeing from my other retinol serums. To be continued ...
Repurchase?
Yes (on spesh natch) ...

Hair

Head & Shoulders Anti-Dandruff Shampoo (200ml, RRP $6.75)
Fortunately, I'm not dealing with dandruff or flaking scalp - I bought this many months ago on the recommendation of my stylist to remove excess colour safely from my hair if my home dye ends up too dark, and it's really quite effective. Even more so if I crush a Vitamin C tablet and mix it in with the liquid. It leaves my hair feeling like straw so I only do one application, leave it on for at least 5 minutes, rinse and then use my usual Goldwell Kerasilk one for application #2, and then it feels ok again. It sure takes out the dye quick-smart! ...
Repurchase?
Yes, but I've had so many compliments about my (accidental) darker hair shade I may not need it lol...

July 2020 Empties & Giveaway!...

Well now, in comparison to many of my other Empties posts, July was a bit of a fizzer - my collection tub was only two thirds full lol! Understandable as I took a break from the under-eye patches (I used 24 the month before), I was trialling a few new skincare items so my usual ones went on hold, plus I have quite a few products in rotation so I'll probably finish a whole bunch at the same time, which means that next month should be back to normal max volume ha ha. There are a few newbies in this collection though, so at least there's something interesting for you to read...

Body

Colgate Plax Alcohol-Free Gentle Mint Mouth Wash (500ml, RRP $6.49)
Because I get bored easily, and also so I wouldn't tire of the taste of the White Glo mouthwash that's always in my Regulars section, I chose this one mainly because of the description "Gentle Mint". Most mouth washes are way too strong for me - I don't like it when they sting, burn my tongue, or inhaling the fumes makes me cough, and this particular variety doesn't give me any such grief. In fact, it might well become my favourite - delish fresh mint taste, and it's available at the supermarket. The only negative is that it doesn't have any whitening power ...
Repurchase?
Absolutely! ...

Du-it Tough Hands Intensive Skin Repair (150g, RRP $11.99)
I'm a bit naughty when it comes to hand creams - I have around eight partially used ones in my bedside drawer, so I'm now on a mission to use them all up before I open anything else (wish me luck!). I think this sample tube was a freebie from a beautyheaven Rewards Room pack, but regardless of its origin, if your hands are in poor shape, it's really something special. Amazingly rich and restorative, it absorbs well and doesn't leave a greasy film on the surface - just enough to keep the healing going, especially overnight. Barely any scent but I don't mind as it's such a great cure for cracked and damaged paws ...
Repurchase?
Definitely need a tube of this on hand for when I'm doing dirty work and neglect to wear gloves ...

Sukin Arkie Hand Wash (500ml, RRP $9.95)
A lovely scent mix of tangerine, mandarin, lavender & vanilla, I bought this primarily because I spotted it at Coles, and my household is powering through the hand wash these days (like everybody else). Foams well, doesn't dry my hands, and with jojoba, avocado & rosehip oils, aloe vera and chamomile, well how could I not toss it into the trolley? ...
Repurchase?
It's a limited edition, but if I spot it at Coles again, yes ...

Weleda Citrus Creamy Body Wash (200ml, RRP $19.95)
ADORE this body wash - my full review of it is HERE. It's officially a regular from now on ...
Repurchase?
Without doubt ...

Weleda Skin Food Light (75ml, RRP $24.95)
Ahh, Weleda - I'm a late boarder on this bus, but I'm making up for the lost time. There's a bit of a story behind how I discovered how AMAZING this stuff is. I knocked over a cup of freshly made tea onto my hand - my arm was in a sling from a major shoulder injury the day before, and literally trapped the just-off-the-boil water against my skin. In short, I had a rather severe burn across the back of my hand. Did all the right things with the ice, but it was bright red and very sore for days. Once the sting had gone I applied some of this magical potion every time I thought of it - let's say up to 10 times in a day. It was so soothing and cooling. After a few weeks, the skin started to peel - looked terrible while it was going on, dark brown and very wrinkly. But I kept applying the Skin Food Light until all the dead skin peeled off, revealing...smooth, clear, non-scarred skin. Unbelievable! My left hand now looks 10 years younger than my right. Weleda, you are my hero ...

Silly question ...

Natures Commonscents Natural Goats Milk & Paw Paw Body Wash (500ml, $8.00)
Reach Dentotape (20m, RRP $2.99)
White Glo Charcoal Total Mouth Detox Whitening Mouthwash (500ml, RRP $6.99)

Face

Eaoron Makeup Remover Balm (90g, RRP $39)
My favourite cleanser for the cold weather. Don't be put off by the price - this seems to be permanently on special at Chemist Warehouse (currently $18) - a total bargain, and it's brilliant. Such a shame the jar isn't recyclable. My in-depth review of it is HERE...
Repurchase?
Yes, every winter ...

Olay Eyes Pro-Retinol Eye Treatment (15ml, RRP $48.99)
Thanks to Fawn ♥ for putting me onto this gem. Improvements in under-eye skin texture within a matter of days, same for crows feet. I'm trying the new purple retinol one right now, and that has maintained the benefits already gained, but no startling new developments. I will always have a tube of this red jewel on hand. Pricey, but regularly on special, and I honestly don't care a fig about price if it works, which it does. No change to the baggies, but that's a given ...
Repurchase?
You betcha ...

Oskia Renaissance Cleansing Gel (35ml, RRP $?)
This sample tube came in last year's lookfantastic Advent Calendar. The problem with these boxes is that a lot of the products simply aren't available anywhere in Australia, this one included (although ASOS will ship for free). So if you fall in love with any of them, you're pretty much screwed. I didn't exactly fall in love with this one (fortunately) but it's a lovely pink cleanser - it's almost an oil that melts into the skin and removes everything, with minimal suds. Smells a bit soapy, but tolerable ...
Repurchase?
Nah - I prefer my Neutrogena Pink Grapefruit cleanser any day ...

Skin Physics Dragon's Blood Facial Sculpting Gel (50ml, RRP $59.99)
This was sent to me to trial by theorycrew, and I'll be forever grateful. Loved it so much I bought two more jars when it was on special recently at Priceline, which is the only place you can buy it. It's a soother and a smoother, absorbs super quick and leaves my skin all glowy, plump & refreshed. Unlike other gels I've tried recently, this one doesn't leave any tacky feeling on the skin surface. Mega hydrating with very little scent (sort of earthy, coconut coffee maybe?) and I believe it's making a difference to my jawline. Watch this space ...
Repurchase?
Yes, oui, si, ja etc. ...

Neutrogena Oil-Free Eye Make-up Remover (112ml, RRP $10.89)
Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair Retinol Oil (30ml, RRP $42.99)
Olay Regenerist Miracle Boost Youth Pre-Essence (40ml, RRP $39.99)
Sukin Rosehip Rejuvenating Facial Scrub (125ml, $14.99)
Sukin Oil Balancing Charcoal Pore Refining Facial Scrub (125ml, $12.95)
Swisspers Make-up Pads (Pack of 80, RRP $3.79)

Fragrance

Versace Dylan Blue EDP (30ml, RRP $102)
Cute little sample bottle from a DJ's beauty bag. Nice scent, but for me not worth buying as it fades quickly. Starts off fruity and flowery and then becomes wood, wood and more wood. Adore the bottle...
Repurchase?
No...

Hair

Schwarzkopf Professional Royal Permanent Hair Color (60ml, RRP $23.96)
Still hunting for a permanent silvery-blue hair colour - thought I'd found it in this one, but no. First time I used it, perfect! Fabulous shimmery steely grey - my dream shade. The second time, came out brown-ash, and third time, golden highlights. What is it with grey hair dye that no-one seems to be able to make it?...
Repurchase?
No - the search continues...

Makeup

Maybelline Brow Ultra Slim Eyebrow Pencil (RRP $15.95)
So Maybelline dropped my hero Total Temptation Brow Definer from their range - boo! This is the substitute, and it's a pretty good one. The thing is, now that I'm going silvery-grey (or attempting to at least) my brows look weird being blonde and even weirder if I go up a level. So I use this to create the shape, and then go over them very lightly with the MNY Tattoo Brow Pomade in taupe, because this Ultra Slim doesn't come in taupe - boo! Believe me, I've tried 15 different colours and brands in the last 3 months, even grey and they all make me look like a clown, or Sylvester Stallone's mother. So, for now, it's a two-step process, and that's working just fine, just takes longer ...
Repurchase?
Affirmative ...

Maybelline Face Studio Prime Pore Minimizing Primer (30ml, RRP $17.95)
Because of this primer, Maybelline you are forgiven for the above. My regular is by DB Cosmetics, but my local Price Attack is ALWAYS out of stock, so I tried this and it's almost identical. Does the same pore minimising and mattifying trick, and at least it's readily available in lots of places. In June I bought four tubes for half price at Priceline ...

Not for a while as I'm sorted for now, but yes ...

    August 2019 Empties & Giveaway!...

Hello October  I'm so glad you're here - daylight saving, no more early morning frost on the windscreen, winter woollies packed away, Halloween on the horizon, self-tanner on the bench, pedicure booked in, woo hoo! But arriving seemingly super fast, you've also landed me in a bit of a pickle - I'm literally drowning in empties! Three buckets, two brimming with tubes, bottles, packets and jars that need to go into the recycling bin stat, and one that I already can't see the bottom of. Note to self: earning a living is important, but there needs to be a balance between work and play. So...at least one day of this long weekend is for catching up with my blog posts (and a sheet mask), so let's get started ...

    Body

Ecostore Vanilla & Coconut Hand Wash (250ml, RRP $5.50)
Pretty close to being my favourite hand wash - I simply ADORE the fragrance, plus it's non-drying, made in New Zealand (the land of fantabulous skincare), no SLS, not tested on animals, the shape of the bottle means that it sits nicely on the narrow laundry and kitchen sink ledges, and the packaging colour scheme goes perfectly with my creamy toned ensuite ...
    Repurchase?
Easy peasy, plus I can find it at Woolworths ...

Johnson's Pure Cotton Buds Applicators (150, RRP $2.69)
The only cotton buds that go anywhere near my ears because they never shred or fluff off - also essential for makeup cleanups, and the plastic container is super handy for storing bits and pieces 'cos the lid snaps firmly in place ...
    Repurchase?
    Forever ...

Nubian Heritage Coconut & Papaya Bar Soap (142g, RRP $10)
One of many Limited Edition soaps available from Shea Moisture. They're all deliciously fragranced, super softening and creamy, an elegantly curved shape, and not tested on animals. I bought several to try and I opted to start with this one as it matched my bathroom decor the best. It's really long-lasting, and I haven't actually finished it yet, but how do I take a picture of a used soap bar? ...
    Repurchase?
Definitely, well as long as the Limited Editions are available ...

Schick Hydro Silk Razor (RRP $14.25)
This aqua blue version is SO old I don't think they make it any more, but the purple one seems to be the replacement. It still works with the latest refills but on close inspection, I noticed it was really quite stained and ratty looking, so I decided to treat myself to a new one ...
    Repurchase?
Yep - shaving is the only hair removal I can be bothered with, and the Schick razors are always reliable, safe and effective ...

Shea Moisture African Black Soap Soothing Body Wash (384ml, RRP $19.99)
    Lovingly reviewed HERE ...
    Repurchase?
Always, and if you apply the KATS code at the Shea Moisture checkout, you'll still get 30% off! ...

Sukin Botanical Body Wash (250ml, RRP $8.95)
A lovely body wash that's non-drying and leaves my skin feeling fresh and clean. I'm a big Sukin fan, and this has a very pleasant herbally fragrance, but it's not quite interesting enough to entice me to buy it again ...
    Repurchase?
I doubt it - I prefer the scent of the Lime & Coconut variety, or the Sukin for Men Cinnamon & Mandarin one ...

Weleda Skin Food (30ml, RRP $14.95)
Gifted at the August Beautyheaven Natual Beauty Event, I'm in awe of this cream, and at a total loss as to how I haven't come across it before now. Quite simply the richest moisturising cream I've ever used, and to top it off, the lemony fragrance is to die for. Holey guacemoley - way too intense to use on my face, the restoration work this did on my Winter-withered hands as an overnight treatment was phenomenal. So much so I'm kicking myself for forking out almost double the $$$ for another brand of hand cream that only recently became my HG. I'll still use it during the day of course, but this Skin Food has instantly earned a forever place in my beauty stash - whoa! ...
    Repurchase?
You betcha. and the large tube at that ...

    Regulars
White Glo Charcoal Total Mouth Detox Whitening Mouthwash (500ml, RRP $6.99)
Shea Moisture African Black Soap Bamboo Charcoal Body Scrub (170g, RRP $10)

    Face

Eaoron Makeup Remover Balm (90g, RRP $26.99)
My go-to Winter cleanser - love it to bits, and now available at Priceline as well as Chemist Warehouse.  My in-depth review is HERE ...
    Repurchase?
Sure have, I stocked up at a recent CW sale ...

Elizabeth Arden Advanced Ceramide Daily Youth Restoring Serum Capsules (60 capsules, RRP $140)
I scored a sample tube of seven capsules from somewhere, and I hesitated to try them because I was concerned I'd fall in love with them, and then my beauty budget wouldn't stretch to keep the supply going. Well, they were indeed a lovely experience, but I needn't have worried as the results were not sufficient for me to invest in any more. Exceptionally hydrating yes, but I saw no visible improvement in texture or wrinkles, and to be honest, I found trying to rip open the little pea pods without the precious contents running through my fingers quite annoying ...
    Repurchase?
No, said she as her Bank Manager breathed a sigh of relief ...

Lacura Green Tea & Olive Leaf Clarifying Facial Scrub (150ml, RRP $4.99)
I bought this to try, instead of the equivalent St. Ives one. It's very similar, both in fragrance, texture and performance, but I think the St. Ives one has the edge ...
    Repurchase?
Probably not - there are so many other scrubs I prefer, and this one is a bit boring in comparison ...

Lancôme Renergie Multi-Lift Day Cream (50ml, RRP $159)
A 15ml sample jar leftover from a 2 years-ago GWP. A stunning cream, but too rich for my skin...and because of the price, fortunately, lol. I knew that before I opened it, but I wasn't going to toss it, and it was too old to give away. Even for the short time I used it, my pores clogged, but the problem went away soon after I finished it. Still, I won't go there again - for the record, the same thing happens with La Prairie and La Mer creams, so with the exception of L'Occitane, I'm not destined to use high-end skincare - phew! ...
    Repurchase?
    Negative ...

Wrinkles Schminkles Morning After Glow Serum (50ml, RRP $44.95)
I bought the Wrinkles Schminkles Eye Smoothing Kit (silicone eye pads), and this is the serum that's applied the next morning. Well the pads haven't done anything for my under eye area so far, but I'll persist, or I'll try them on my upper lip. This serum is quite lovely - silky, soothing and softening with a fresh lemon scent, but there are so many others I prefer (like my latest passion, L'Occitane Immortelle Overnight Reset serum - ooh la la!) ...
    Repurchase?
    I don't think so ...

    Regulars
DB Pore Minimising Primer (25ml, $14.99)
    Neutrogena Oil-Free Eye Make-up Remover (112ml, RRP $10.89)
Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair Serum with Accelerated Retinol SA (29ml, RRP $42.99)
Nivea Hyaluron Cellular Filler Anti Spot Treatment Serum (30ml, RRP $34.99)

    Face Masks

ActivLayr 5 Sec Firming Eye Mask (7 pairs, RRP $89.99)
These were my greatest August discovery (review HERE) - I loved them so much I bought two more boxes (the first was a PR gift). I have more pictures of terrific results for another post, but just haven't had the time to put it all together yet. Keep an eye out for this brand though, and whatever they bring out next - I reckon their marine collagen products are going to be big ...
    Repurchase?
I'm waiting for the full face mask (or entire body suit lol) ...

Yes To Tomatoes Detoxifying Charcoal Mud Mask (10ml, RRP $5.99)
This was in the July Bellabox - was SO looking forward to it, but was disappointed that I could barely scrape it out of the sachet. It was set quite hard and thick, and took a bit of doing to get it onto my face and spread it out. It left my skin soft and deep cleansed, but I was puzzled as to why it was so dry - that was until I noticed the expiry date of "4/19". Whether Bellabox knew this or not, or whether Yes To provided old stock to Bellabox, I think it was bad form to include a product that was past its use-by date...
    Repurchase?
I doubt it - the experience put me off trying any of their other products...

    Regulars
Skin Republic Retinol Hydrogel Under Eye Patch (3 pairs, RRP $9.99)

    Fragrance

Chi Chi Strawberry & Violet Eau De Parfum (50ml, RRP $19.95)
Can't imagine my fragrance collection without this - it's so beautiful, and I receive regular compliments and queries whenever I wear it. I first discovered it back in 2015 when I called it "shamelessly romantic and totally feminine", and that's still the case. Review HERE ...
    Repurchase?
    Yes, it's a keeper ...

    Hair

Coco & Eve Like A Virgin Super Nourishing Coconut & Fig Hair Masque (212ml, RRP $64.90)
Another sample (38ml) treat from the July Bellabox - it's definitely bliss-worthy. The fab fragrance enveloped me in the shower, and the beauty of it is that you only leave it on for 5-10 minutes. Incredibly nourishing, my hair felt so silky and smooth afterwards ...
    Repurchase?
As much as I enjoyed it, unlikely - too expensive, the Kerasilk one I love is just as good ...

Nordic Blonde Blonde Toner (150ml, RRP $12.99)
This worked quite well to counteract the yellowing in my hair, but it does stain the fingers a wee bit, and the smell is just plain awful...
    Repurchase?
No way - ewwwwww it stinks...

Schwarzkopf Live Colour Metallic - Denim Steel (RRP $5.49)
This is a gorgeous and intense deep blue-grey. I've actually changed my hair colouring now to this range because it doesn't actually dye the hair.
