EOTD: L.A.Colors Tranquil Aqua...

When you work with colourful eye shadows as much as I do, you just KNOW there are going to be some duds along the way, especially if you frequently indulge in bargain brands (like I do). Mind you I've been severely disappointed by some that cost an arm and a leg too, so it's kinda the luck of the draw. But when I buy a 5-shadow palette for around $6 and it blows me away with the pigmentation, then you can't wipe the smile off my face. So I'm grinning from ear to ear over this L.A.Colors Tranquility palette...

My darling Mama gave me a very pretty pastel aqua top (see pic below), and as most of the aqua shadows I have in my kit are staggeringly bold, I went for the middle shade in this palette, firmly believing it would be the best match (given how much I paid for it, and the relatively high potential for pigment disappointment). Well wasn't I surprised when it turned out heaps brighter than it looked in the pan, and in fact I probably should have used the one to the right of it (well there's always next time lol)...

I used essence white kajal as my base, and stroked this delightfully creamy shadow over the top. It's beautifully shimmery and I was pretty darn impressed with the miniscule amount of fallout...

I deepened the outer corner with a similar shade from the NYX Bohemian Chic Nude Matte kit, and added this underneath the lower lash line as well...

On the waterline is Mirenesse Blue Moon Mineral Face Colour Gel - an almost perfect match!

As you can see, my eye makeup was a tad too intense for the top, but as I'd already given my hair a bright red refresher on the weekend, I figured I'd already failed "pastel", and chose a lip hue that was halfway between bold and subdued...

Have you been pleasantly surprised by a cheap palette? What's your favourite bargain-buy eye shadow?

Take care of you,
kats xxx

  1. What a gorgeous palette! And so affordable. I'm so glad it is not a dud Kats, the colours are so pretty! I honestly thought that you used the same shadow on your waterline. That Mirenesse Colour Gel looks identical to the shadow shade :D
As always you have matched your EOTD perfectly to your outfit. That is such a beautiful top and it goes well with your beautiful self.

    1. Yo Mich I have quite a few now that last past lunch time - they're definitely not expensive, but nearly all potted gels. I try not to blink till they've dried but it's SO hard lol ♡

  3. I couldn't wait to check out your look when I read the title. You totally didn't disappoint, not that I thought you would! Just looking at your photo, the shadows look like they could be lacking in pigmentation, but wow, what a little treasure of a palette! xx

    1. Darling Indie, the shop that sells these never has anything available for swatching so it was a gamble, but I wasn't too worried for $6! They looked so pretty and soft in the palette, so it was quite a surprise to have it turn out so incredibly bright. I'm itching to try the paler ones now though, and with a bit of luck, that deep turquoise on the right will be an absolute blast ha ha xxx

Once again, you've delighted me with using my favourite colour - aquamarine - on your beautiful eyes! I love the Mirenesse gel colours. I think that they're one of the best products that they make.

    1. Dearest Petal my aqua-pal ♡ - I agree wholeheartedly. Some of their crayons are stunners, but a few of them contain sparkly bits which is a no-no for my waterline - no problem with the gels though xxx
