I just love it when I have a plan for an EOTD, and then chance (or a major stuff up) turns it into something that I hadn't necessarily planned, but it works out ok in the end ha ha! Well this is precisely what happened the other morning. Apricot and grey is not a combo I would have thought would work (that's if I'd thought of it at all!) but hey, I think it's quite unique, and has a special quality about it...
So I started with Maybelline Color Tattoo in Fierce and Tangy - it has a matte finish, is quite thick and dry, and I don't find it as creamy or easy to apply as the bronze, white, silver or gold. But the base it provides for any shadow in the orange sector of the spectrum is brilliant - it really enhances the colour by adding dimension and depth that would normally take major layering to achieve...
Over this I patted down the apricot pigment from the MNY Bronze Hyperdiamonds palette, and took it underneath as well - it's the little triangle on the right in the below pics. A gorgeous shimmery tone that packs a shimmery punch. Then I deepened the outer corners with the bronzey shade on the left. As you can see these two particular pans are exceptionally well loved :-)

Then for some reason or other (probably half asleep lol) I forgot to clean up my waterline with a cotton bud, and there was quite a bit of leftover black liner that had transferred from the top lid after tightlining. This is unheard of for me as I'm normally scrupulous with my cleanup before proceeding to the next step. Anyway without even thinking, I applied my essence white kajal over the top, and ended up with...grey. I was going to wipe it all off and start again, but the more I looked at it, the better I liked the contrast with the apricot...
I actually don't have a grey crayon for my waterline, or anywhere for that matter - it's not something I'd ever thought about purchasing as I'd dismissed the shade as way to dull. But I'm LOVING this combo of pastel orange and grey!
Have you ever done a make up goof that turned out to be a bonus?
Take care of you,
kats xxx
Unfortunately my goofs remain goofs LOL. If you asked me about apricot and grey I would of thought the colours wouldn't match very well but you've well and truly proved me wrong here Kats. Look at your eyes!! They look awesome and the colours look great together. I think its nice and soft too....perfect for our cooler weather :D
ReplyDeleteAww darlin' it's a rare thing for a screw-up to turn out well for me, believe me! So rare in fact, this is my first post on the subject ha ha. I'm glad you like the combo, sometimes I wonder if my perception of colour is a bit skewed if you know what I mean, so your lovely comment is SO welcome hon xxx
DeleteYou have a talent and a real eye for colour combos Kat. It not just the colours you choose but the shade of that colour too that makes you so skillful as a makeup artist. You are an artist and you could honest put yourself out there to do ladies makeup. I'd hire you!! :D
DeleteSweetheart you are so kind to say such lovely things ♡ But the truth is I get a bit nervous just doing my Mum's makeup so I'd better stick to practising on myself lol xx
DeleteThat apricot looks absolutely gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it a pretty shade Jas? I've had this palette for so long now I should probably toss it, but it's the only one I have that has a colour like this, so I'm hanging onto to it for a while longer :-)
DeleteThe apricot is divine. The grey liner is surprisingly a great match. It looks perfect, like you applied a grey toned liner, rather than the mix of white over black. I love it, hun, I'm so glad that you shared it with us :)
ReplyDeleteHey Indie it even surprised me - I just kept going over the black with the white crayon backwards and forwards, and the more I did it, the smoother and creamier it became. Lol I'm going to start blending my waterline colours now!
DeleteLike the others here, I love the apricot colour, Kat !!!
ReplyDeleteMy makeup goof is when I stick the mascara wand in my eye. Ouch !!! Black mascara spattered on the freshly applied eyeshadow :(. Wiping away with a damp cotton bud removes some of the eyeshadow so I have to reapply and if it's a real bad mess up, I have to start from scratch. There's seldom a time that I don't poke myself in the eye with the mascara wand. Must be due to my bad eyesight. I do envy those that make applying mascara seem so easy.

Ouch Arty, me too - happens fairly regularly at my makeup bench and it's SO annoying so I can totally sympathise. I apply about 4 coats each morning, and every one of those is a potential for disaster...
